Day One Hundred Twenty-Four: No Longer Doing IKEA Furniture Assembly.

Today I had one task come up at an hourly furniture assembly rate. It took five hours to assemble a tv stand, vanity, and closet set. The closet set never got finished and I scheduled to come back on Friday to complete it.

In today’s video I talk about why I am no longer doing IMEA furniture assembly for TaskRabbit and only doing furniture assembly.

I am learning this the hard way. They moved back to flat rate, I will never touch a pax closet ever again.

I’m a Tasker also and here is a funny story from a recent task I had. I was forced to assemble a PAX sliding rail closet, upright, because the crazy couple thought a 93-1/8inch closet was necessary for their 95inch ceiling height room, after I explained throughly that can’t recommend that closet for that room for various reasons. After over 4hours finishing the assembly they complained that I had scratched their precious new hardwood floor and even refused to pay.

Ikea just returned to flat rate assemblies. I've accepted 3 jobs coming up next week, but I can already see this isn't going to work out. I was charging $35 hourly and even according to Taskrabbit's scale that was low. With the flat rates, jobs will be roughly $15-20 hourly, and that decreases with every passing hour. I'm going to see how this week goes, but I already know I'm canceling. I'm hoping other Taskers boycott these flat rates as well.

Haha. I ran into this issue quite a bit when the IKEA task were based on a "one price estimate". I think they changed the platform though. Now a client can hire you at your specific "furniture assembly rate". Those PAX units...ugghh i remember going over the time limit every time.
