The Senhora d’Aires is the largest Christian church in the south of Portugal, and one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Alentejo. Many farmers went there on their horses, to ask for protection for their cattle and a good harvest.

JIP Chamber Choir is a project choir from Utrecht, the Netherlands, founded in 2013 by brothers Jonathan and Imre Ploeg. JIP wants to present new and unknown choir music from all over the world, brought together in surprising, engaging and fundamental themes like war and peace, the nomadic life, the refugee crisis and the ecological crisis.

For this project we worked together with the fantastic ensemble The Windsor Consort. We have immersed ourselves in the culture, language and music of Portugal.

Há muito que não escutava uma interpretação desta canção popular portuguesa orquestrada por Fernando Lopes Graça executada de um modo tão próximo como o fez o Coro da Academia dos Amadores de música dirigido por aquele maestro. Sem dúvida que falta a força de todo um coro, no entanto, toda o sentimento está presente. Embora aparentemente singela, trata-se de uma orquestração muito dificil de executar, nomeadamente quanto ao seu adequado ritmo e tom. Obrigado por este momento.
