Directionality and timing looks the same to me, if you conduct a study when you have exposure but still don't have an outcome then it will be forward or prospective and if you conduct the study at a point where the outcome have developed then it would be a backward or retrospective study. Is there a difference between the two?

I don't understand the difference between the directionality and the timing of the study. In both retrospective and backward direction we start with the outcome as known and we look back in time to see what the exposure was....so what is the difference?
