Prince Consort, come closer and read the specific
It is written:
"Qin Xianglian, 32 year old
Issues a complaint against the imperial family's Prince Consort
Deceiving his majesty, misleading the emperor
This man broke a marriage vow to become his son-in-law
By attempting to murder his wife and extinguish his heirs
He abandoned his conscience;
He drove his wife to death within a shrine."
Have this accusation posted on every building

I've been speaking chinese all my life and the theatrical accent is so thick that I can't actually make out what they are saying after hearing it dozens of times.

I find it fascinating that the Chinese opera has a weird style of singing for the exactly same reason than Western opera: singers have to be loud because the band plays loudly. However since these two artforms have developed independently on the opposite sides of the world, the way to develop this loud singing has been very different

I’m fascinated by this clip for some reason. The fact that we can still watch this opera 430 years after the original story was written, the fact that the character singing was snitching on Chen Shumei so hard that they dedicated a whole segment to it, the language of the English translation being so austere and matter of fact in its phrasing contrasting with the colorful way it’s sung, the way the singer starts kind of shouting at the end makes it sound like he’s getting exasperated, the way this became a meme, it’s all so funny to me for some reason

Summary: This prince wanted to cheat on his wife, and tried to have her killed. This dude " Bao Zheng" (the guy with the tv antennae) is a very popular and respected litigator/investigator, who read out the charges/accusations which the prince did, and Bao discovered.
It's also understood that if you can sing this without making a single mistake, your Chinese Social Credit score will increase by 100 points.
