OK whoever came up with the term "Jumping the shark" probably didn't even WATCH the Happy Days episode, because that's not even what happened. Fonzie appeared to be waterskiing OVER some rails, he never "jumped a shark". He probably didn't know the shark was even THERE!
Also "Jumping the Shark" is gramatically vague (in a literal context) - it could mean jumping ON the shark as much as it means jumping OVER it.

I didn't like this episode when new, but most of the eps I liked. Seasons 1-3 were my faves.I just thought it was ridiculous for the character of Fonzie, who had never surfed before, do so like a professional.Also while he was surfing he wore that cycle jacket. The beaches I have been to were very hot, so to wear a leather jacket would cause a heatstroke, to say the least. Everyone knows Henry Winkler didn't know how to drive a motorcycle in real life.So also, the ep where he rode a bull and this one of him surfing were probably done by a stunt man. I have nothing against Fonzie but I hate it when he is treated like some comic book super hero.I thought he was cute, but nothing to make those girls chase after him on Happy Days.Fonzie thought any woman lacking an interest in him was a cold fish.What? We have no sense of individuality?
