One thing people forget is that the attack in Pearl Harbor was on phase of a larger plan. Not longer after the attack, Japan also invaded Guam, the Philippines, and even Alaska. The invasion of the Philippines, if I remember correctly was going to be included in FDR’s address, but he removed it because Hawaii was closer to home.
There’s a lot about the pacific theatre that gets ignored

The pacific front isn’t really covered in ww2 history in western schools for some reason. It’s wild - because the Atrocities that happened were astounding. It’s why Japan isn’t allowed to have a military anymore.
