when they actually just flat out say its part of the prison in the Danish dub

This would also explain the absurd amount of times Megamind escapes the maximum security prison. They let him escape to keep Metro Man distracted.

Metroman doesn't degrade himself when he becomes a singer. He is finally doing what he always wanted deep down. The reason he became a hero was because he felt obligated to use his powers to defeat villains and he liked the attention. But a big part of Metroman his charakter in the movie was that he never aspired to be a hero it just sort of happened

This isn't a theory.  This is a fact.  You've convinced me.  Of course, now I'm sad because I adore Megamind and the fact that they turned him into a villain just to stop a superpowered being from becoming a villain instead really pisses me off and makes me want to protect him.  And I also feel sorry for Metroman.

This actually makes a lot of sense my only question about the film was why is it just because he crash lands in a prison why not make the guards get him out and bring him to an adoption agency instead of living there for YEARS and you explained why that is to balance it to make sure that there will always be a villian against a hero. Very well made theory.

Is it me or does it sound like he's trying not to lose his shit in some parts?

You know... i actually thought about this in that light too. They were unusually cruel to him, making him see no other way to get attention, other then being evil.

Let me give you MY theory. Between the two, Metroman and Megamind, the one who is inherently far more valuable is Megamind. Metroman is just a brute force guy. He has powers to do physical things. Faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, etcetera. But the fact at the end of the day is that's all he's got. He's a physical powerhouse. But megamind... he can do ANYTHING, with his mastery of science. The sky's the limit. He can create an invention that has so much more potential than anything Metroman could ever hope to do. For crying out loud it's established he can easily INDUCE superpowers in a non-empowered individual so that already gives Megamind more value than Metroman himself. He could have beaten Metroman at ANY TIME just by doing that to himself or an ARMY, maybe an army of cloned soldiers! He just didn't. He wanted to beat him in some arbitrary way, because he was sabotaging himself because of the tragic role he had found himself in. And so Megamind is inherently infinitely more valuable than Metroman. And Metroman knew this, and it tore him up inside, to know that his own net contribution to the world was actually of NEGATIVE value, because without the rivalry he had with Megamind, without his own existence displacing Megamind's true place of greatness, and casting Megamind into the role of villain, the world would be a better place than it is with Metroman as a hero and Megamind not even in the picture. And THAT'S the reason he faked his death and quit the game. He was trying to make Megamind into the positive force he should have been the whole time, since he knew Megamind would be better at it than himself as he had so much more potential.

Maybe Megamind Saw the Truth all along.... "Welcome to Monstrosity"
I also wished they made Megamind 2 already.

I actually really liked that movie!

*stroking my chin* So in other words, for our Megamind, the game was rigged against him from the very start, but to even more brazenly literal terms than previously thought. The school to prison pipeline became a bus route.

My theory on why Metro Man broke down is this condition called golden child syndrome. Its when a child grows up overly praised and then worries constantly that they might slip up and when they do, it is the ultimate defeat but at the same time relieving because now they can live less worried.

The difference between Metroman and Hal is that Metroman was born with this power. He was raised in a loving family with good morals and felt being a hero was his responsability. He was treated well by people, he thought they deserved to be protected. Megaming being the oposite. Hal was given this power out of nowhere and was told he was supposed to be a hero, that’s not a natural way to create a hero, that was forcing it.

I always thought that the school was made specifically to make super villains for super heros

I’ve got a side theory on this movie. What if this movie is like the “Truman Show”. This would explain why Megamind was able to escape easily. Here’s the story. The government of the city realized that, if they have a villain and a hero, they could make a reality show, based on the fights of Mertroman and Megamind. This is why, both Metroman and Megamind, have exaggerated entrances to events. Metroman and Megamind punching a whole through a wall, or playing “Welcome to the Jungle” before a fight. How Megamind was able to have a space weapon, the government allowed it to happen. Metroman realized this was a fake and wanted out, but the Mayor wanted him to stay, which is how they were able to fake his death because it was the only way he could get out of this. Hal and Roxane could’ve been pawns to. Maybe Roxane was told to tell Megamind to create a hero and to tell Hal to get behind the pipe because they wanted Hal to be the new hero. However, they know he’d be a villain, so when he destroyed the city, that would be the finale of the show because Megamind became good. Perhaps even start a spinoff where Metroman is “dead”, Megamind becomes a new hero and Hal was manipulated to be the new villain. That’s why the tag line “The superhero movie will never be the same” because this was all staged for a TV show. And sorry this was lengthy, but I thought this was a decent theory suggestion that kind of holds up.

I read a fanfiction with the same concept, but I never thought this would be supported by canon!! Good job!
