Because of the high value of the nests made by edible nest swiftlets ( Aerodramus fuciphagus and A. maximus) the caves are protected by nest guardians who live, together with their families, both inside and outside the caves, Gomantong cave, Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysia.
