Dude i love how knowledgable these guys are, its like a breathe of fresh air when your liquor store knows their shit, hate walking into a liquor store that dont know their product . This was like my favorite thing to do when i worked at a liquor store, read labels and ask when you dont know.

And don't forget about dark beers. They only get better over time! Some of these recipies even require ripening times of AT LEAST one year.

I could be totally wrong, but i heard the original reason for putting so much hops in IPAs was to help preserve them for their long journey to India.

I have a barley wine brewed in 2018 waiting for a good occasion to try it. I’ll probably buy a fresh one and compare them.

Hops and lots of it should actually preserve beer. Why Indian pale ales were made. British soldiers kept getting spoiled beer and word is a brewer got so upset that he dumped a load of hops in the beer to keep it fresh and when they came back they wanted beer like they had in the service

I have a dogfish head 120 minute and it tastes significantly better when you age it. I mean, it does says “ages well” on the bottle. I had mine for over a year and it was so good. I save it for special occasions and such. I usually buy 1-2 a year when I find them and then always stick them in the fridge and forget about them.

The container is most important combined with sunlight. Clear or green glass in sunlight makes it go off in days or even hours instead of months.

So fun fact, I bought a Monte Carlo from a co-worker and a lot of people would pay him in beer. When I open the trunk there was about 30 bottles and cans of Bud light. The newest one according to its born on date was still over 3 years old. I gave them to a homeless guy saying he would dump them out and cash him in. Then buy some fresh beer or something but he said they were fine. Just need to be put in the fridge for a bit

What a beautiful thing it is to see a Sam Smith's imperial stout out in the wild.

I had a Belgian beer that was over 20 years old a while back. Amazing

It'd be nice if beer companies were required to stamp the brew date on the cans or bottles. When I used to drink, I was always worried the beer I just bought was expired because there is usually no date of any kind on most craft beer.

Actually, this is fascinating because I always wondered about the expiration of alcohol.

Hopps is a preservative allowing for beer to be transported thus why it’s an Indian Pale Ale so it could survive the trip to India still might not taste good. You also allowed beer production to condense from every tavern brewing their own beer to a few producers. My history professor argued this led the Industrial Revolution
