Key word: Fair. Not sure it will be Fair, but something is better than nothing.

Sucks that this law doesn't go into effect until 2023. I think it should go into effect as early as 2021.

Forget the NCAA, the conferences, and colleges that exploit these athletes. Pac-12 had the audacity to put forth that pathetic statement that this would have disastrous consequences for the "student-athlete." Meanwhile they're bringing in millions through endorsements and a television deal. These athletes can't even use their skills to hold or participate in mini camps and be paid for their services.

Go cry elsewhere. I support the Fair Pay to Play Act.

It’s simple really, if the demand is there to make money off of your likeness, the. You should have the right to partake in it. It’s not like many of the players will have this opportunity. Maybe a few on every good team.

Not only are they not required to pay any compensation to these players through college but in most cases the schools aren't even liable to pay for medical expenses related to an injury on the field....I only wish this bill could take effect much sooner.

Fair pay to play means that if you are in demand you deserved to get paid that doesn’t mean EVERYBODY gets paid or everybody gets paid the same it means that if you are somebody who draws sponsorship and viewership you should be able to make money. Equal opportunity not equal outcome

I'm not a sports enthusiast but as long as I can remember I never understood why college athletes weren't allowed to receive any type of monetary compensation for doing the exact same activity as professional athletes. Were the schools afraid of players getting rich, quitting college and no longer being able to make money off them? From a business standpoint eliminating their athlete's options makes sense. Ethically it's sucks for the athletes seeing as how this is basically a form of slavery.

What's funny is the NCAA is losing its credibility, as it is football players stay away from playing in bowl games(which is the goal for almost every football team) so they don't hurt their draft stock. And in basketball you now have leagues in China, Europe, and Australia so high School basketball players don't even need the NCAA anymore, many of the basketball players leave after 1 year and thats already been a problem with fans which are losing interest.... Its let the players get paid from their likenesses or crumble NCAA...

Just because it's difficult doesn't mean we shouldn't do it...

College Athletics DEFINITELY SHOULD GET PAY 💰

I just cannot find a moral or logical explication on why the NCAA and PAC12 would have a problem with this other than “SB206 cuts into our profits”

They already get 'paid'. Most get a free education that they can use later to make a living since most will never pay professionally. This is a HUGE slippery slope

My only hope is that out of this brings the return of NCAA football video game and EA Sports can figure out a dollar amount to pay each player for their likeness.

He issue of how much to pay the different players is the same issue ESPN has and every other company with employees. Figure it out

the more I hear about this the more I see how College will never be the same after this goes mainstream

They better get paid from video game companies

It’s this simple. If we’re going to pay college athletes, EVERY ATHLETE should be paid the SAME amount of money. The only thing to do then is determine how much that is.
Keep in mind there are around 460, 000 NCAA athletes.

Stanford, UCLA, USC, and CAL in the playoffs with UCLA vs USC in the championship game. You saw it here first

There is also bills in Congress with much broader rules that enforces the college to pay the athletes.

the only thing people are missing about "athletes getting paid" is that if they're on scholarships to play, then they're getting paid. you don't go to college for free then make a profit playing football, you PAY go to college, and scholarships pay you to bring you back up to zero. last I checked, that is getting paid. all this is doing now is allowing the best players to make even more money, and limiting the role players (i.e. linemen, running backs, defense, etc.) in their chances of getting above that zero line that a scholarship might bring them to, unless they're still already paying out of their pocket.
