China had never won a gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games before the Olympic family convened in Salt Lake City. in an event where the slightest mistake can lead to disaster, the pressure was clearly weighing heavily on Yang Yang's shoulders as the five-woman field lined up at the start of the 500m. I remember watching this with a Chinese winter sport fanatic. The guy burst into tears when this lady won gold. I didn't really know what to do. I only had a passing interest in the games and couldn't care less. l bought him a few more beers lol

well just happened to be two girls with common last names and common sounding first names too! And actually they have different first names, one is 楊揚 (known as Yang (A) Yang), and the other is 楊陽 (Known as Yang (S) Yang)), different characters but they sound the same. The first girl didn't wanna get called by Large (L), so she chose (A) instead. (S) is for small :)
