Jamey Johnson - Someday When I'm Old (Lyric Video)

Jamey Johnson, who has received 10 Grammy nominations, is “one of the greatest country singers of our time,” according to The Washington Post. He has received tremendous praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal and other publications, many of which have hailed his albums as masterpieces. He is a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry.

His album That Lonesome Song was certified platinum for more than 1 million in sales, and his double album, The Guitar Song, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country album charts and was certified gold. He also released the Grammy-nominated Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, which featured performances with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Ray Price, Elvis Costello, George Strait and Vince Gill.

He is also widely regarded as one of the greatest country songwriters of his generation. He is one of only a few people in the history of country music to win two Song of the Year awards--for “Give It Away” and “In Color”--from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. His songs have been recorded by George Strait, Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson, James Otto, Joe Nichols and others.
He is also an in-demand musical collaborator. He recorded “I Forgive It All” for the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tribute album, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty, which was released in June. He and Elle Langley recorded “Young Love (Strong Love)” for A Tribute to the Judds that was released in 2023.
He was honored to be invited to turn two of Johnny Cash’s unfinished poems into songs. He completed “Spirit Rider” for the album called Forever Words, and he and Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, turned the late icon’s words into a song called “California Poem.”

My husband @doodletime1649 just sent this song to me and i was bawling in tears by the end of it. Hubby is 62 and i'm 56. We have 5 kids and 9 grandchildren. We feel like there's not enough time in the day and each birthday we get more wrinkles, gray hair and more sentimental. YOu are a phenomenal artist. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. God Bless you and yours.

Damn, I must have gotten old. I was so busy living and raising a family that I didn't see it coming. Same beautiful woman for 40 years, 5 incredible sons and now 6 grandchildren so far. It's been a hell of a life and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Didn’t think he could release a better song than in color but he did. Awesome story.

I'm 72 now. My wife passed 11 years ago and I'm suffering from COPD and know my time is coming to an end soon. I've lived a life the way I wanted to and I'm good with what's to come

I heard this song today and it choked me up. My memory tells me that I am still a young man but my breaking down body reminds me that was another time what is now long ago. I turned 72 last August. I'm not that young man anymore. Jamey Johnson, you write and sing the best songs that touchess your soul. I love you man!

I have the demo of this song by Jamey Johnson from 2004. I love how weathered his voice is on this version. It's a wonderful time to have Jamey Johnson putting music out again

I don't have the right words to express how this song makes me feel. "Sober" was close when it came out last week, but this is the one, this is the Jamey I fell in love years ago in Can't Cash My Checks and Back to Caroline. I am so happy he found his mojo again and is writing. The world needs more Jamey Johnson right now! Can't wait to hear/see what is next from him

I’m going to be 50 next year, I’m in a wheelchair with a C-4 spinal cord injury from a motorcycle accident 8.5 years ago and shouldn’t be here but I’m still glad I can reminisce on my childhood, as a young man, and all my wild adventures with my friends. I raised 2 wonderful, respectful kids, my daughter a 25y/o Navy Vet, married to a Green Beret, and a mother, and a 21y/o son living on his own making big money in construction, a beautiful wife, and now I’m a Pop Pop! I look in the mirror now and I see me aging more and more everyday and wonder what life will be like when the lid closes. I absolutely love this song it really got the tears flowing.

The sign of a real artist is when their songs can invoke emotions in someone and Jamey is a true artist to the core thanks for all the classics

Just listened to this again and it chokes me up. I'm noticing more wrinkles on my face, now i have grays in my eyebrows, my 1st born grandchild turned 16 is working and drives a car... talk about someday when i'm old.. it's hitting both hubby and me that's for sure. I love it when i can recall something from my youth... like 1st grade coloring Red Cardinals and Blue Birds and how i lvoed that... recalling when my mom married my step dad (my dad whom we just lost last December). OH enjoy each day to the best of your ability as time really flies.

Just a beautiful song and recording Mr. Johnson. You are a true country music gift, I’ve followed you from your early albums and you are always relevant and relatable. I also like when you collaborate with Randy Houser. Thanks for sharing with us here. Sincerely
