For all the people wondering about camouflaging the lid once inside -
You can just put a weatherproof, translucent glue on the lid in a slightly irregular pattern. Sprinkle dust and rock on top and it won't come off.
His real problems will be making a water tight hole that still lets air in, without any obvious filters on the surface.
