Why I Would Never Live in Korea Long-Term

i’m from japan (i live in usa now) and honestly, it’s the same way for me. though, i love japan, and miss it i would most likely never live there full time again.

After 3 years, I left because pf the sexism, racism and homophobia. Korea is technologically 50 years in the future and social 50 years in the past.

I watch a lot of Korean dramas. And over time I started to see why it would be stressful to be in Korea. It's not obvious because it's a fantasy show but I think small things that people worry about seep into the storyline.

I was born and raised in S.Korea for 20 something years (not trying to reveal my age in public😂) and now in the states for the last 5~10 years. I LOVE living in the states. My husband, who’s not Korean, got surprised how much I don’t like to be in Korea whenever we go there. For me, it is suffocating. Here, I can live in the way I want, not being judged harsh, can be happy the way I am. And everybody accept you the way you are. I feel belonged more here than when I was in Korea.

전 한국에서 자랐지만 8년가까이 어렸을때 미국에 살기도 했고 지금은 어른이 되어서 미국에 올 기회가 생겨 3년 넘게 있는데 아무리 다양성과 포용성이 있는 미국이라지만 한국인 정서를 갖고 있는 저에겐 미국이 점점 버겁더라고요. 맘 편히 대화를 해본적이 없는 느낌이랄까.. 지금 커리어적으로 좋은 경험하고 있지만 곧 한국으로 돌아갈것 같아요. 한국 물론 사회적인 압박감 심하지만 또 내가 남들에게 치이지 않고 중심을 잘 잡을줄 알면 살기 나쁘지 않은것 같아요. 자라온 환경이 참 중요하다는걸 느낍니다.

Many people hate on America but we have an incredibly diverse population and the freedom to express and embrace it. 🇺🇸

I would stay in South Korea for about 7 days I want to visit there again since I was born there I want to go there again

Not everybody will have similar sentiments. I prefer living in Asian countries. Discrimination and racism towards asians in white countries have gotten worst recently.

아무리 미국에 오래 살고 있지만 그래도 자기가 살던 나라가 그리움 미국의 다양성과 사회적 압박감이 덜하다는 것에 동의 하지만 미국도 오래 살만한 나라가 아니라고 느껴짐

Same. I love visiting Korea, Japan and China but living there for a long term is HELL.

주변 사람들이 뭐라하든 무슨 신경을 씁니까. 생각보다 그거 별로 신경안쓰고 사는 한국인들 많아요. 한국이 오지랍문화가 강한건 사실이지만 남한테 크게 불편을 끼치는 정도만 아니라면 뭐라하는 사람은 없습니다. 그렇다면 그런 한국인이 이상한 사람이죠.

그럼 미국에서 계속 살면 되죠ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 전 미국에서 살다 왔는데 한국에서 커서 그런가.. 미국 사회가 너무 힘들더라고요. 미국 친구들도 진정한 관계를 맺는다기보다는 가벼운 관계?를 맺는 듯한 느낌이 들고요. 영원한 이방인이라는 생각이 들더군요. 인종차별도 심했고요.
