In this new video, take a listen to a sample of the in-game unit combat chatter from Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and experience one of the many ways that the team at Blackbird Interactive brought a staple of the Homeworld series to the deserts of Kharak.

Lead the expedition that started it all in Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a ground-based sci-fi RTS from Blackbird Interactive, a studio founded by veterans of the Homeworld and Company of Heroes franchises.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak takes players to the deserts of Kharak where danger lurks over every dune. Before you can find your Homeworld, you must first unlock the secrets of the desert.

That moment when nameless units in an RTS have as much personality as main characters in other games.

I was really confused in a mission when someone was freaking out about a power overload and imminent explosion, then someone talking him through the solution. I couldn't find where this random mission objective was happening, then I realised it was just the battle chatter between 2 units, gotta love it.

This was one of the few games where if you had an overwhelming victory, you still felt sad for losing that one LAV.

I have a vivid memory, where there was intense combat with one of my cruisers at the center of it, taking a lot of damage, and I swear when I selected it, it replied in a frustrated, distracted voice, almost accusing me of issuing another order and distracting the captain from his command in the midst of chaos. It was one word: "What?!". It stuck with me, and I listened out if it'd ever happen again, but never did. May have been some noise that I mistook for it, or it's used extremely infrequently. With BBI putting so much work in to the unit chatter, I have no issues believing that it actually happened though.

Just to reiterate, the art and audio teams for the homeworld series are some of the best military sci-fi i have ever seen

Audio is absolutely outstanding in this game. You guys really did a great job. Keep supporting the game as many are excited to see more of Homeworld.

Awesome! The unit chatter was always a favorite feature from Homeworld. It would not be HW if it was not for it!

"Kapisi, please advise, were picking up this strange, persistent interference on all channels. it sounds like someone playing a sarod with a woman moaning in the background. are you getting this?"

I wish more strat/RTT games had atmospheric stuff like this. Even stuff like Wargame doesn't. You guys don't know how brilliant this is and how much the few who love this game appreciate it. Hats off to ya.

I loved the chatter from the units in the game, I’d pick up on some units talking and put my objectives on hold just to hear them talking.
I cannot get enough of good chatter, especially when it fits narratively and even in gameplay.

A bunch of yellow, heavy armored guys vs a red, speedy and high-tech faction.... and in the final mission the yellow guys uses a giant blue laser from space to kill a religious leader of the red guys.... Sounds familiar lol

Never played a game where the com-chatter feels this natural.
Lovely work. Without compare.

I wonder if they should make a homeworld game about the old hiigarans you know before the exile to Kharak. Would it be named Homeworld: Old Empire? I dunno I would just like to see the derelicts of Karos in their prime. Would we be the Taiidan since the Hiigarans at the time were nuts and they lost in the end?

Managed to disect game files using "Unity Asset Bundle Extractor" (UABE). Using this app you can open "coalition" file inside <game files>\Bundles\vo\. Use info button in UABE app and sort files by type. Select all audioclip filles and click plugins button on right. There is sound file extractor. Select extract location. One last thing... You are looking for combat chatter so ctrl + F and look for files with "CenCom". There you go. :)

It’s weird good games are passed of and forgotten and bad one stay around. I guess negativity stay more in the mind than positivity. This game is great it didn’t deserve to die @Gear Box Official
