NASA Released a Rare Footage of Worlds Fastest Plane SR 72 BlackBird . NASA Released a Rare Footage of Worlds Fastest Plane SR 72 . See Newly Released NASA Footage of the Fastest Plane Ever Flown .

Built by Lockheed Martin in the 1960s and decommissioned in 1998 due to high operational costs, the SR-71 Blackbird remains the fastest aircraft to have ever been flown. Now, Lockheed Martin wants to build an even faster plane: the SR-72.

Now that Lockheed Martin has confirmed that they are building the SR-72, which could be the first hypersonic plane, NASA has released video footage of its predecessor: the SR-71 Blackbird.

Built in the 1960s by Lockheed using designs that were kept secret in the 1950s, the SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest manned aircraft to have ever flown the skies.

Capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 3 (2,200 mph) with a maximum altitude of almost 26,000 meters (85,000 feet), the two-seater SR-71 Blackbird was used as a reconnaissance plane from 1964 to 1998. Lockheed built only 32 of these super-fast planes, and now, they want to build an even faster one that will act as a strike and recon aircraft.

The SR-72, the leading project under Lockheed’s Advanced Development Programs (ADP) or Skunk Works, promises to be even faster than the Blackbird. The company wants to develop a plane capable of hypersonic flight — speeds of Mach 5 (3,836 mph) and higher — and the SR-72 is expected to reach a Mach 6 (4,600 mph) top speed.

The inspiration for this hypersonic plane may come from the past, but it is poised to take military aircraft well into the future.

Where was the SR-72 footage? Typical clickbait and deserves my dislike!

Great video. Of the SR71. Why mislead people with such a title ? There is no footage of the SR72 in the video.

That thing was designed in the 50s and is the highest flying and fastest flying man airplane . imagine what they have now

No SR-72 footage nor images, here. This is NASA’s SR-71, with mostly footage of the flight testing of their Aerospike engine (using water, not fuel) circa 2000 or so.

It wasn't the fastest maned aircraft. The x-15 was much faster. The Blackbird also went faster than Mach 3 by good amount.

Here are a few corrections other than the obvious click bait as we do NOT see an SR72 fly in this video as you claim. I live by Plant 42 and SkunkWorks and it has not flown yet. Only some testbeds for technology demonstration.

Also the SR71 is NOT the fastest plane to ever fly. It is the fastest, manned, air breathing, non experimental plane to fly. Sorry just trying to be accurate and I felt duped into watching this.

The fastest POWERED winged manned aircraft to fly (on record) is the rocket powered X15 at 4, 519 MPH
The X43 was unmanned and was a
and the fastest free-flying air breathing vehicle at 7, 546 and that was achieved 11/16/2004 just 2 days after the Nimitz Tic tac encounter in the same area.... Hummmm..
The HTV-2 Falcon, an Air-launched hypersonic glider; is the fastest unmanned aerial vehicle
And of course the Fastest manually controlled flight in atmosphere during atmospheric reentry is the STS or Space Shuttle at 17, 500 mph

The SR 72 will be unmanned and should be on the order of Mach 5 but we know it will be capable of Mach 10.

However none of these are as fast as the Tic Tac at 25, 000 to 70, 000 MPH caught on radar and estimated to be much faster.

I was on Okinawa 1974-1975 at Camp Foster. Use to see and hear the SR-71 take off Kadena AFB towards the East China Sea. Probably checking on China.

This is a Oxcart YF-12 interceptor. Two were built and the speed records were set by YF’s. They were built from the A-12 airframes. Shorter than a SR-71 and lighter as well. Single seat. Was able to fly faster and higher than a SR. This video shows this to be a trainer version. The pylons below each engine was for AIM-54

Standard protocol for this aircraft if it ever detected an incoming missile was to simply accelerate XDXD
