2018 Honda Odyssey Review | Edmunds

The Honda Odyssey doesn't get a full overhaul very often, so the completely redesigned 2018 Odyssey is big news. Ride along with Edmunds editor Josh Sadlier as he explains what's new and notable about Honda's not-so-mini minivan – and how its features stack up against the competition.

At a glance, the 2018 Honda Odyssey looks a lot like its predecessor, though a closer inspection reveals fresh elements such as contoured side panels and "floating" glass around the rear roof pillar. But it's night-and-day different inside, where the 2018 Odyssey boasts a totally new dashboard, a revised infotainment interface, and a slew of family-friendly enhancements to the Odyssey's already impressive functionality. Under the hood, a revised V6 joins forces with one of two new transmissions: a ZF-sourced nine-speed unit or a Honda-built 10-speed in fancier models.

Is the new Odyssey massively better than the model it replaces? Not necessarily, but the available interior upgrades in particular are quite desirable, giving this family hauler a distinctly modern and upscale vibe. It's certainly among the cream of the current minivan crop.

Other questions? We've got answers.

Q: Will the 2018 Honda Odyssey have AWD?
A: No. Honda has no plans to offer all-wheel drive with the Odyssey. The Toyota Sienna continues to hold an edge in this regard.

Q: When does the 2018 Honda Odyssey go on sale?
A: The 2018 Odyssey is already available at Honda dealers.

Q: Can the 2018 Honda Odyssey tow a boat?
A: Yes, depending on the boat! But the 2018 Odyssey's towing capacity depends on which transmission you have. If you get the base nine-speed automatic, you'll be limited to 3,000 pounds, whereas the 10-speed automatic can tow 3,500 pounds.

Q: Will the Honda Odyssey fit in my garage?
A: The Odyssey is a pretty large vehicle, so you'll want to check the dimensions to make sure. But it's worth noting that for 2018, you can have your Odyssey with a new height-adjustable power liftgate that won't bang into low-hanging garage ceilings or obstructions.

We have an 18 EXL. Love the vehicle. Everything is working fine other than Android Auto. Very glitchy. Have tried several different phones, so think there is a bug in the head unit of the vehicle. Also blind lane watch engages slower than our 16 Volvo V60. Have averaged about 29 mpg on the highway. Also is significantly quieter than previous Odyssey's we've owned. And agree steering is light and secure. Hope they can get a patch for Android Auto issues.

How does this compare with the Pacifica? Which one is quieter?

Going forward it would be helpful for you guys to also talk about the competitors and how it compares in your reviews.

I am a big fan of Odyssey but why they make it smaller according to the spec? The passenger volume, a number go Why?

I have had my 2018 Odyssey for less than a month and it has been in the shop for half the time. It has had radio problems since the day we got it. Honda tech support is working with my dealership to figure out the problem and after changing out the tuner for a new one with updated software, still broken. According to my service person, my Odyssey is not the only one having this problem.

The MPG's aren't going to get much better because the previous model used VCM, just as this does, deactivating 3 cylinders to save fuel. But you can only lug an engine down so much & no matter how sleek these looks, they are basically boxes on wheels that have to break through the wind.

Total rear suspension design. Overall witdt is less than the 4 th edition but you can still carry a 4 by 8 sheet .

My Nissa Quest 2015 has CVT and give me 27 highway miles for my last trip for last trip. In the city it's give me a 23.9 miles per gallon. I like it Honda direct injection not give any fuel economy advantage include this more moving parts 10speed transmission. I don't see any reason for new engine and transmission on paper.

Buy an LX and save money. The LX has plenty of stuff to make it a good mini van.

YOU DONT NEED TO WAVE YOUR FOOT.
Simply do a “kick” motion under the center of the bumper and BOOM. It’s opening. 🙄
Who is this host? So many small but major details he fails to sell on the vehicle.
