Not only are they losing out on the donations, they are subject to chargeback fees that could cost thousands.

Wow, this should be illegal if it’s not already. Both criminal and civil liabilities need to be in order.

This is literally targeted abuse.
Like this should be illegal.

Yeah it's actually heartbreaking for smaller creators because they get their hopes up and it's all taken away.

PayPal is making it easier for people to not use them for business purposes with stuff like this happening. The vtubers could take the person to court in which PayPal would have to provide a legal name and address of the person then do all the legal stuff.

This is just systematic abuse. I hate when companies side with the bad ones for this

I've had charge backs before for some artwork I did but nothing close to this scale. I really wish PayPal would change their policies when it comes to things like this. They really need to look into situations like this very closely and step in when necessary. I know for a fact that people that do some of these chargebacks do it with malicious intent.

Big tip: Don't leave your money on PayPal. As soon as you get a donation especially if its a big one move your money out of there asap.
If a chargeback happen to you and PayPal don't wanna help flip a middle finger to PayPal and make a new account or use another payment service.

I remember when someone did this to Etika, and he fought them and won. He got all the money and roasted the person on stream.

PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Kofi, Patreon, SubStar and other payment processors are not your friends. They can and will shiv you the moment you're not looking.

the difference between banks and paypal, is banks will tell you it was your choice to press confirm and generally wont reverse the charges, unlike this issue

I would ask what the original function of charge back is for but looking at this I can only assume it was ever meant to be a scam, otherwise the fee would come from the person making the claim. This is just socialism in banking because it's the third party who didn't agree to this who is stuck with the fee.

I had to chargeback some transactions once, bought some stuff online from the same seller, turned out to be a scam and I was able to get my money back, but I also had to talk to someone at PayPal to explain the situation.

The only time a chargeback should be allowed is in the case that you payed for something that is either provided broken/has something missing, has not been provided at all, or the wrong product is provided. Donations should not be covered under chargebacks, especially considering that the person recieving the donation is subjected to an additional fee.

Imagine if someone pulled this on a small charity. Donates 20k USD and then charges it back later, maybe after the charity has already used some of it to fund a charity event or whatever. At that point, the person is causing potentially massive financial damage to said charity, and hurting anyone it was trying to help.

Charging back donations to a streamer is literally handing them money of your own free will, then taking it back, usually a day later, and slapping them with a potentially massive fee for something you did. People who do this should have their bank accounts shut down.

The only time I have ever used a chargeback was when a big order of food was not delivered. Just Eat had a 1 week refund policy at the time and did not refund me even after 4 weeks. At that point it's pretty reasonable to take that route.

It should be used to prevent scams and being ripped off, but it's quite clear that in this case it makes scams easier, and Paypal should be held responsible for all wrongful damage it has ever caused. It is disgusting that it applies to donations at all.

So lemme get this straight, so someone send people money and they take it back and paypal then charge the receiver the transfer fee?
Like wtf how is that acceptable
Like if someone send me a damn bomb threat thru some email service and then they say its a joke, i am going to jail for the threat?
