The Rate of Photosynthesis - GCSE Biology

***This video is for the Bioenergetics topic of GCSE Biology and Combined Science (9-1) - it is written for the AQA specification but overlaps with other exam boards.***

The first part of the video is for everyone (Foundation and Higher Tier). We’ll start by learning how each of the four factors can limit the rate of photosynthesis.

There are graphs to understand for three of the factors:
Light intensity
Temperature
Carbon dioxide concentration

For the amount of chlorophyll, there isn’t a graph as this is difficult to measure and change for an experiment to collect results.

Then we’ll look at how multiple limiting factors can interact. This is Higher Tier content. We’ll look at this with an example and then on a graph.

Graphs on the rate of photosynthesis can look scary, but if you practice them they will become more straightforward.

The last piece of content is covered in my Maths in Biology video at 10 minutes 48 seconds. Here is the link to that part of the video:

Thanks for watching, I hope this video was helpful & good luck for your GCSEs!

Wouldn’t humidity be a factor as well? Too low of humidity causing stomata to close. Even if environmental CO2 is sufficient if the stomata can’t exchange it with the O2 in the leaf it would shut down photosynthesis
