With Magic approaching 30 years old, and the market for the cards being hotter than ever, you need to know the best methods for telling if a card is real or not. This video covers every key method for testing a cards authenticity.

As a collector/investor of Magic cards, nothing is worse than paying a bunch of money for a fake card. Knowing these methods will give you peace of mind when diving into the deep end of the MTG investment mana pool.

I also have a video like this coming soon for identifying if a Pokemon card is genuine or not (if you'd like to see that as well).

Thank you for watching!

I don’t know if you remember, but they printed these cards in North Carolina, at PBM. My dad took me to the printer, and those dot matrix machines are not only gigantic, but also highly protected technology. We were only allowed to see certain parts of the print line. It was a literal factory. Also, they just so happened to be printing.... drum roll.... Scourge!!!! At that time. Tells you how long ago this was.

FEI, newer counterfeits definitely pass some of your indications. I've purchased some copies for kitchentop MTG, and they pass the rosette-print and normal text print and bend-test. The ones I got do shine a tiny bit more than the originals and the back is a tiiiiny bit more blurry than originals.
I hope someone can use this information.
Peace.

The bend test ... eh, is it really necessary given the myriad of other tests that cover all the things one ought to look for?

IMO it just seems needlessly risky.

Thank you so much! I have been too scared to by older magic cards even to simply play with in edh decks from ebay as I wasn't confident I could tell a real one from a fake! I bought a Habinger of Night from Ebay for an edh deck and will be putting it through these tests to learn how to assess them for myself. Not the rip test though! :P

My cousin gave me a bunch of fourth edition bulk awhile ago and chronicles. Would these cards be subject to the same tests or reserved list sets? The bulk is cheap enough I could do a couple of rip tests :P
