After hearing this energy saving tip a lot I decided to test it out myself. Is it worth doing? How much can you actually save.

Using my energy monitor I finally put to the energy and money saving tip to the test. #diy #energysaving #housebills #electricity #myths #home #Money #moneysaving #energycosts #bills #homeimprovement #hometech

I am baffled at how to-the-point this video is. Instant-sub. If only other channels did what you do.

Since regulations kicked in that forced manufacturers to reduce power consumption in standby, it is clear that you don't really need to turn off things these days as they'll draw 0.5W or less - although a load of items (including smart bulbs powered all the time on or off) will still add up so if you've got maybe 3 set top boxes, 3 or 4 TVs, soundbars and 10-20 smart bulbs. Then perhaps consider powering them off if you're going away for a while. However older gadgets and appliances may still draw a bit more power, and the real killer is going to be your fridge/freezer. We have one in the kitchen and a freezer in the garage and both can consume 100-150W for regular periods throughout the day. That'll be the main draw when everything else is off and you're sleeping, or out. Other savings can come from slightly reducing the brightness on your TVs or computer monitors, as well as power saving measures on your PC (or get a Mac using Apple Silicon!).

Just to point out, that’s 7.30, if it was plugged in and not in use for a full year, probably closer to a fiver all in all (taking away time in use)

I was trying to tell my ex this for the longest time and she just wouldn’t listen. Ex for a reason. I’m glad you didn’t have an opener with an intro and telling us to follow you like and subscribe and all that BS.

Ok, so explain to me because of still baffled, after my mum moved out of her flat and all appliances turned off for 6 months plus, does EDF still say a reasonable amount of electricity was used, and I could see the meter had ticked over too (not a smart meter).

I can appreciate the suggestions of a short somewhere, but the electrics were in a good condition having been recently inspected!

Switching off is generally the best idea if you are leaving your residence unattended, you don't want to be that 1% that suffers an electrical failure and loses their house and possessions because of a fire...

I'm so annoyed by my family members switching off the microwave every chance they get... They're probably saving 1 dollar in a whole year, while the microwave gets used 15 times a day. 😒

I turn off all my unused sockets and saved £10 a month go figure

You are wrong. There is no way all these devices you plugged back in to use only 3 watts. Alexa alone uses almost 4 watts in standby.

Imagine if all 27 million homeowners in the UK were like you. A loss of 200 BILLION pounds a year. So just do it like the rest of us.
