Pitino changed our team completely. 3 months ago we (Panathinaikos) were 3 positions below the Euroleague playoffs qualification threshold (11th out of 16 teams), and now, today, with a win, we get to choose our opponent and become 6th.

This man made Papagiannis a great towering Center, and saved our season. You'll have him again next year, but currently, we are lucky to have him as our coach.

I would love to see Bill Belichick say at a post game press conference…. “Tom Brady ain’t walking through that door fans, Rob Gronkowski ain’t walking through that door and Julian Edelman ain’t walking through that door!

In the 20 years since Pitino made these statements, New England's four major franchises (Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins) took home 12 world championships and a whopping 37 division titles. And yet, the negativity Pitino talked about is alive and well in New England and the Boston mentality - bring home a championship or get out of town - will probably never change.

He was right. 2 years later most of this Celtics team went on to play the New Jersey Nets in the Eastern Conference Finals. Oh yea and Paul Pierce developed along with Antione Walker and about 7 of the same players from the time when Rick Pitino made this legendary press conference. Like he said, be positive and patient.

Getting rid of Chauncey Billups so quickly for Kenny Anderson was Pitino's demise in Boston. He's talking about being patient and great at player development now. Where was it then? Larry Brown took Chauncey Billups and made him into a championship point guard in less than a season in Detroit. That's real coaching. Pitino is much more style than substance and, as life has proven, can't keep himself away from scandal.

GUYS I NEED TO SAY SOMETHING IMPORTANT!!! This was not started the way you think. The real story you were never told: My father and his siblings were at that game, my grandfather was at his house, whose name is Larry Burke, not Larry Bird. My father told my grandfather before the game, that he would yell his name when he was watching from his television. He thought it would be a wholesome thing to do. At the game, the Celtics just coincidentally were getting destroyed. It was at this moment, later in the game, that my grandfather tuned into the game. He was on the phone with my dad, and that’s when my dad and his sibling who were at the game started to chant “Larry Burke” if you listen to right when the chanting started, THEY SAY LARRY BURKE!! The people in the crowd the assumed they were saying “Larry Bird” who had recently retired and was an absolute all star for the Celtics. That chant didn’t start from frustration that the Celtics were loosing and that Larry Bird should walk onto that court, it started from my dad, uncles, and aunt yelling their father’s name so he could hear it on tv! God, I hope people see this comment. And I hope this gets spread, it’s been over 20 years since this instance and my family has gotten so close many times to contacting associates of Rick Pitino. Call this comment fake all you want, but I guarantee this is 100% real.

I wish Rick potion would have never left the exit door of Rupp arena. He would have built the Kentucky Wildcats into a modern day dynasty and would have tied Mike Krziewski for most ncaa college basketball wins all time. I loved him when he was with the Knicks but in Boston he had no Patrick Ewing.
