In this video I talk about a famous quote by Paul Erdos, "My Brain is Open". I discuss what I think he meant by this and how we can relate it to other things in our lives.

What do you all think about this? Leave any comments below:)

I totally agree! My math sank because I was too closed minded in the past. Today I have a much broader and deeper understanding for having an open mind even in fields like physics and engineering.

Erdos was not crazy. He was just different than other members of our species - in a good way.

Here's how I keep an open mind. I recall Albert Einstein's motto and ponder its meaning: "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Almost everyday, I exercise my brain's muscles by resisting paper & pen and visualising things inside my head. I do that often for maths, art, Gregg shorthand writing, etc. It is *EXERCISE ONLY, * great for pulling brain muscles. Resisting paper & pen forces the brain to work harder.

Search for the video "The Purpose of Life - Paul Erdos". Just be sure to keep an open mind while watching it. 😊

The week before my first public high school teaching job, they passed around a form asking what classes you would like to teach, and what ones you'd rather not teach. I put down that I didn't want any geometry. I never liked it in high school. Had to take a college geometry class for my credential. Didn't like it then either. Well, guess what? Two class of Algebra I, and four classes of geometry!

Anyway, after the first semester I over came my fear and loathing for geometry. The admin was having a little fun sticking the new guys with classes they didn't want to teach, I guess.

Well, they actually did me a favor.

Interesting how things work out.

I remember one night I was reading from an astronomy book, and it was like Erdos said, my brain was open. I wanted to study everything right then and there. It only lasted for a couple of hours though, and I wish I knew how to automatically unlock my brain like that, because I just had to read and I understood. It was very strange. So to me, Erdos literally meant his brain, beyond his mind being open to things.

Great video, I think it's best to be open as often as possible. Hey man, it looks like you have a pretty nice math home library, could you make a video giving advices on how to put one together ? I tried to find something on your channel but I didn't get anything on that...thanks in advance

There are many interpretations of this.
Sir, you gave an example in which you hated graph theory,
But, let's say some person (say Jon) loved Graph theory and was absolutely a master in solving its problems.
That person would resist to new opinions in Graph Theory, and resist alot of the knowledge provided, just because of a superiority complex, which was a gift of being a master at it.
Jon was so good at graph theory, that he never wanted to learn new things from others, he never wanted to attend the classes because he thought he knew everything, and he resisted solving "easy" problems, solely because of his talent.
This gradually would lead to a detoriation in his skills.
Hence, an "open mind" is VERY important for a very intelligent person as well.
Said from person exp😊

I'm thinking about how to build Human body. A fertilized egg is going to be 1/2 over and over, I'm wondering how these cells are going to be organs.
I'm wondering why Human DNA requires 4 digits to represent Human body, compared to 2 digits required for computers.
I'm wondering how mathematics' principle occur in Human body, cell by cell.
