Pre owned Volvos have been great to us, I drive my parents old 1999 S70 now and actually discovered your channel by looking into taking the glove compartment door off to replace it with a new one! The locking mechanism broke. Who knows what I'll encounter I may just need to follow along for tips on my own car.

Thank you Robert for all the great videos ! Still driving my 1998 Volvo S70 here in Canada close to London Ontario . Unfortunately I'm in the rust belt . Ive driven this car for about 23 years now . I'm planning on driving it for a least another year or so, its just such a fine car in every regard ! Hope your doing well and that you are able to do some serious fishing this season ! Thanks again Robert from one Volvo guy to another !

Crazy how many parts are missing on the red car under the hood. I’ll admit I haven’t worked on Volvos a whole lot, but I know enough about them to know what it should look like under the hood and I can absolutely see all the parts you mentioned that are missing and whatever else is left in a total state of disrepair.

I have a V70 with the transmission that goes D43L (5 speed) and supposedly the worst one, a 2000, but with 68k miles. I like driving it a lot more than the one from a 1999 (4 speed). The shifts are super smooth and the shorter gearing really helps acceleration. Having torque converter lockup in 3rd at 29 mph is super useful, where the D3L transmission only locks the converter in 3rd at 39 mph. Those 4 speeds rely too heavily on the torque converter for torque multiplication in my view. They're almost constantly slipping by 500-1000 rpm, even when you're just driving down the road at 35 or 45 mph. The 5 speed is much tighter feeling. Once you get going they hardly ever slip by more than 500 rpm. The thing that kills me with the 5 speed is that you don't get top gear until 43 mph ... but in the 4 speeds, you get top gear at 28 mph, even though it's the same ratio.

Clutch frictions and coolant don't play well together.
