Thousands of DACA applicants wait for approval

About 50,000 immigrants have applied for DACA after it was reinstated in December. But less than 800 applications have been approved. To discuss what's causing the backlog, CBS News immigration reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez joined CBSN's Lana Zak to discuss.

Every case is different. People judge because they are not in our shoes. I’m a nurse RN and a DACA recipient. This is the only country I know. Waiting to get our path to citizenship to join the military. I wish there was less ignorance about this topic.

tl, dr - unchecked immigration is a huge burden on our economy. In 2005, I found myself pregnant, myself and husband self-employed with no health insurance. I had payed into the tax system for about 10 years prior to that. In Texas, I was able to sign up for 100% free WIC program - some food, all prenatal care including all testing, and delivery in a state-of-the-art hospital for FREE. Not one penny paid. People who have typical insurance were paying about $5k deductible/co-insurance for the delivery alone (at that time). During the application process, I didn't have to provide ANY identification, only an address of residence. When I entered information for food stamps I was asked how many people lived in my household, but was not required to report their names or relationships or in any way prove that what I was stating was factual. Go ahead and try to argue with me - I lived it. I stood in the lines, I filled out the forms, I took the help that we needed. They required that we come to a center and take parenting classes. There were about 6 classes, only one was English speaking and it met only bi-weekly instead of multiple times a week. I have never been political but even back then I considered recording my experience because my gut told me it was wrong, when very hard working American citizens were being played by the system, going into debt to pay for this process even with full time work and insurance. Yet an undocumented immigrant can be sure they are provided for 100%. To add, when I'd go to these family WIC offices, I wasn't seeing destitute people. The parking lot was full of $50k trucks and adults dressed and fresh from the salon, and when baby was in tow they were decked out with the latest gear. When my child was 6 months old I returned to the job force with full insurance and called to withdraw from the state program. The person on the phone said they didn't know what to do because she'd never gotten that request. She said that it would just expire in another 6 months. I didn't use it anymore but I could have.

To all of those that say go home, look back on your family, maybe not to far that someone of your family has done the same and you are born here today! We know that we broke a law and want to pay for it but this country talking everyday like they want to help us is breaking our hearts and is creating hate on his own citizens! Many americans don't know their immigration laws, but we didn't do it out of joy and it wasn't that we didn't want to wait to come legally.

Send them back home. They are not wanted. Their free pass is on the backs of the tax payers by a corrupt admin with their own agenda. This admin is cheating our own children to pay the way of freeloaders and criminals.
