woman here and I just started tattooing last year. I can't speak for any other woman but for me it took so much initial effort to get over the gatekeeping and impostersyndrome and actually start (at my pace too and not being kept small and slow in some powerdynamic), but I am so happy that I did and people like you sharing their knowlege online and for free have had a big part in that. Thank you and pls never change <3

I am self-taught. Still learning. However, everything i picked up was from underground women tattoo artists. Im going to continue my journey being the best i can be. I love hearing these ladies' comments...

I’ve never wanted to do an apprenticeship dreading the idea of having to deal with some type of power dynamics or harassment so I’m here, learning from people like you online so thanks million 🙏🏼 ☺️

What every other woman here has said- for whatever reasons tattooing as a career has high chances of egomania? And power is usually accompanied by mysoginistic tendencies. Women absolutely are as capable of being fantastic tattoo artists as men but there are egos and gate keeping and easy grounds for sexual harassment.
I’m starting off in a shop with another woman, a ~55 y/o who started her own because she was sick of being condescended. And was so happy to give me a start without the same issues she encountered.
Thanks for the awesome video!

In my case I’ve been a stay at home mom for 20 years. I’m just now coming back into the workforce and can’t take on an unpaid internship. (My son has autism and I can’t give 40 hours a week to anything besides him) I decided to become a tattoo artist because I can still be there for him and have something for me that also helps my husband support us. This means your videos are a huge help because I can stop when needed and still make progress. There’s also the stereotype that women with tattoos or tattoo artists are somehow “easy” or only doing it for attention. I get a lot of backhanded comments even though I’ve been drawing for most of my life. Don’t get me wrong some women like the attention and that works for them but for those of us that only want to see our art loved, not our assets it’s off putting.

Appart from anything related to tattooing here, your speech is so understandable, clear, logic, and well pronounced.
Let me tell you this is very rare to stumble upon such smooth and pedagogic dialogs. Very above the average haha

am a woman...
being a tattooer (especially self-taught, through videos) requires an entrepreneurial mindset, which is usually encouraged for men/boys rather than for women/girls. it also doesn't help that the traditional route for tattooing is also fraught with misogyny and sexual misconduct. nonetheless, i am really grateful for your amazing tutorials! :)

The reason I watched this video is that I'm learning how to tattoo on my own as a self-taught student, my parents were the ones who found my interest in art so they advised me to learn to do tattoos, and now I love to tattoo on fake skins so I hope one day I will be able to tattoo on real persons and start my job as a tattoo artist in the future, that's why I just started my own yt and tik tok vids. This is the first time I have watched your video and I really love how well you explain things and show some problems we need to look at before doing a color tattoo on a person, I'm glad to be able to learn a lot in this video, I hope to learn more from you in your furthermore videos!

I think it’s because as a women it’s an incredibly hard industry to get into. I have had multiple failed apprenticeship bc my male mentor was only interested in me, not teaching me. I have friends who experienced far worse sexual harassment from their male mentor. I think a lot of women aren’t interested in the amount of beat down it takes just to be given a chance in the industry. I still have yet to had my chance and be given the opportunity to prove this is something I want and I can do. All of my personal experiences with the tattoo industry I’ll be honest have been not great and had really changed my perspective of tattoo artists. I still want to be a tattoo artist and I will still continue on push forward until my time comes but, it has been a very discouraging past few years as a women trying to enter the industry.

Hi! Woman here, I’ve been looking into tattooing over the past couple of months. I’m a traditional artist and I’ve always been told I’d make a good tattoo artist. Your video caught my eye since I am very eager to learn before I even start practicing.

I don't have an answer but I'm not looking for a job.
I'm 68 and I've just always wanted to learn the art as another realm to create in.
I also have a younger husband who's stepping in as my canvas.
You're a good instructor, thank you!

Please could you do a video on how to pack solid white bright highlights and machine settings for this ?

Thanks for this video, currently studying up on colour packing and smooth gradients so this is helpful! I loved hearing your support for your colleague as well - the industry seems to be cutthroat at times and it's beautiful seeing thatt it doesn't need to be.

I’m a female apprentice and I did my first tattoo! I love your videos! They are extremely helpful ❤

I can only agree with the others. Learning in a male dominated industry ist extremely difficult. I’ve also dealt with men trying to harass me and being more interested in me than in teaching. Ultimately, I resorted to teaching myself through videos like yours. Later on, I managed to work with a very helpful mentor. He taught me a lot of things too and through him I still believe that despite all of my past experiences, there are good teachers out there, also as men. I think women are rising up in the industry, and hopefully over time, that quote will balance itself out 😊

Unfortunatly i think it's an incredibly hard industry to get into, especially as a woman...it's getting slowely better, but far away from equal.❤
