My first nice amp was an OG block letter 5150 my dad got me when I was a teenager in 1996. We were kinda poor but my dad and I both loved Eddie and I was getting good at the guitar so he went for it. Solid guy. A few years later in college I thought it was cooler to have a Marshall so I traded it for a JCM 2000 TSL 60w. Yeah... 60 w. I'm a total douche. I still have that stupid TSL. Now that I'm the same age as my dad was then, and he's gone from the earth, that TSL reminds me of how cool my dad was and how stupid I was. I'm a doctor now and very grateful so have a little money so bought all the 5150s. I wish I could give them all to my dad. RIP dad. I know you know that I was as stupid as you were once.

Anything called Mr. Scary is guaranteed to deliver.

Also, when playing makes you smile huge and smile, it's crazy joy.

As soon as you put the MOD in it, we start hearing and feeling your joy of playing it. Cool!

The 90s dual rectos were things of legend. And while I still like the amp - and it sound super unique... not sure if I'd ever want to have one anymore.

Dude, how?!!! This thing sounds freakin’ amazing. Best recto tone I have heard in YouTube videos (and I’ve been watching a lot of them as I’m debating getting a recto). I think I’m sold after seeing this video. Also need a Mr Scary mod obviously. Thank you for another awesome video, as always. 👊🏼

Hello, this is my first video here. Great job. I am a bass player, and when the band came off tour for the last time, my guitarist needed money to start his new path in life. so I thought i was helping him with buying his ?1997? Dual Rec. I had only ever heard it on large stages. We had a case maker design flight cases, so we didnt have to take them out of the case. We just removed the front lid/front and unsealed a small plate in the back to plug into. Let me tell you, he did me the solid by selling it to me. Holy S#!+ ! I have had duals paired with the oversized cabs 8-10 times in my studio prior to this point. This THING is a monster! It stays inside the stag/flight case with the front off. The low end is so HUGE yet it sounds so translucent with a face melting sound. Your gutz RuMbLe. Now, saying that when I take it out of the case it sounds like every other oversized Mesa cab. If you can recreate this in any of your own studios, this is a MUST DO!!! But what do I know, I'm just a bass player. ;) Nice channel BTW. Keep it up!

I’m a huge fan of Mesa amps. I’ve got a Mark V and a TC 100. I had a single rectifier a while back and didn’t quite bond with it at the time - looking back I never should have sold it

That amp is sick sounding dude. I was smiling right along with you after the mod. Great to see you enjoying yourself as well!

That’s got a lot more growl and bark than it originally did. Wow. I’ll have to try this!

I’m not a high gain lover but this sounded fantastic. I can appreciate it. I know how it would sound live.

*Mesa rectifiers have become the staple sound of metal, and you mentioned the real culprit above all others which is being scooped and having some grain or rasp to it.*
For at least the last 20 years, every amp and every mod I've employed is scooping mids, having a lot of bass, moderate treble and a good amount of grit and rasp, but being I'm primarily a solid-state guy, it's a PITA to tame the high even order harmonics that semiconductors are plagued with.

*This is why digital is certain to take over, they've basically nailed tube fizz and zing, and the chip architecture being manufactured has finally been adapted for asymmetrical clipping and resolving at least some of the high even order harmonic content.*
I'm a bit late to the game, but my s.s. analog designs created from the ground up still do it significantly better than the most expensive digital gear around outside of something like a Kemper.
*The mod you added to resolve this amp's failures is relative to something I'm designing and building using solid-state, but perfectly confident mine will do it way better and for any type of amp technology.*

I had a PRS S2 McCarty 594 I sold when I bought the PRS core model. I had upgraded the S2 with 57/07 Pickups. I miss that guitar so much. I didn't like Core model and traded it for a Gibson ES335. I tried to buy it back and the guy had already traded it .

Hey Kyle!

Have you considered the possibility of a series of videos looking at pedal-type amplifiers like the Blackstar Amped 3, the BluGuitar Amp 1 Iridium, etc. and comparing them to conventional tube amps?

If somebody has the right collection of tube amps to make an informed comparison, that's you man.

Yes. My Laney 4x12 cab and 5150 head from the 90s.
