UDK - 6DOF/6-axis gameplay concept WIP

Ever since discovering UDK I've wanted to do this sort of game, and after gaining some experience I felt like taking it on again. I think I have gotten the basics working as I like so far.

Controlling was a bit difficult during recording because of the 30fps fraps limit, but otherwise it seems very fluid and easy to control. Which is surprising for this kind of game, at least from my experience (I remember playing Descent on just the keyboard... ouch!).

I spent 95% of the time on this tweaking the control and movement system, so that they're responsive, yet still like you're piloting a ship. It's a lot of fun swooping around, in all directions :p I'm using keyboard/mouse here, but I have also mapped the Xbox 360 controller and that's just as fun.

Everything asset-wise is 100% UDK stuff, I just made a quick debug HUD and added some UDK sounds. Please let me know what you think!

OMG, it would be so cool if you'd be able to pull this off. One thing: Add that slight up and down ("wiggling") of the ship, and if possible (and not already present), add joystick support.

Nice work mate! would be nice to see this kind of game similar to star wars or star trek with space-like story and gameplay. It would be awesome to battle alien species like zergs, protoss, and other races from Star Trek and Star Wars or presumably real alien races like Reptilians, Greys, Zeta Rreticuli, etc. Try researching about Reptilians especially...there are a lot of conspiracies that could make an awesome storyline! Keep up the good work!

That's exactly like the space fighters in UT2004, though looks more fluid here. Could make for really nice space battles.

Incredible movement. I have gotten 6DOF to work with quaternions but the movement is not nearly so satisfying-feeling as yours. I would kill to get a glimpse at your unrealscript. Don't hesitate to PM me!!

Realy cool. In Descent 3 there was a realy cool therd person view mod witch turne on with code byebyemonkey. In 3D this tipe of view isvery usefull. Espetualy wen camera if not fixed on a craft and got some latence.

Holy shit dude, I'd love to see a 6dof multiplayer arena shooter. I love Forsaken, it still plays really well even now. The controls look really close here.

Interested in development, have UDK setup here, and basic modeling/art skills that might be useful. Drop me a line if you take this further, I've been missing descent for ever.
