I don't know why the crowd reacted that way to the joke about the losers in South Carolina. I'm from the South and I thought it was funny. People having rebel flags and saying "the South will rise again" always cracked me up, because I never understood having pride in both losing the war and being on the wrong side of history. There are plenty of other things about the South worth celebrating, that you don't have to idealize the worst period of our history. And the Confederates were losers, both in the sense that they lost the war, and in the sense that they are condemned to be racist a**holes in history.
