The ROMANIA You Didn't Know Existed (What Media Won't Show You)

Welcome to Romania. A well-kept secret in Europe, a destination not many people go to.

After a negative COVID-19 test result, @fearlessandfar and I headed out into the remote Rodna Mountains in Maramures, for a 3-day wilderness trek. We brought everything with us: our shelter, food, all the provisions we would need. We hoped to find water along the way.

There are many many beautiful mountains in my country Romania. There are so many trekking routes through wild areas that you can't explore in a life time. Thank you for shinning a light on this part of Romania! 🇷🇴

Hey! Pasta is not what you carry with you up in the mountains! Onions, bread, cheese and smoked ham or sausages is all you need. They keep, they provide a pretty balanced diet (for a short while), and they contain a lot of calories, compared to their weight. You don't need to spend a lot of time for preparation and there's no waste. And don't drink when it's cold enough to wear a padded jacket - temperatures drop quite a lot up there, and alcohol is not at all helping you to keep warm. It gives you a warm feeling a short while after you drink it, but after that you're exhausted and very vulnerable to freezing.

Oh my dear Eva, you're a blink on my eyes! I'm romanian who I relocated myself across the ocean in usa and I'm telling you is no place for me as HOME ( Romania). I'm currently traveling with my partner and 3 small dogs all over usa and this country who I call second home is not even close to my natal country. Me and my husband before having kids :D We did Rodnei mountains in 2 days (second longest ridge from Romania). The second day we had to hike 40 kilometers. Amazing memories :)
