Opposite of our local sale. We have to have all our shoes and clothes checked for season, stains and quality, then we are required to put it out ourselves by size. For everything else, you put it out yourself. No one sorts it. It gets made pretty and organized though prior to sale and they pull anything dirty looking or broken. Consigners get to shop first during presale so I always consign bc it’s worth it to trade in my old kids stuff and get first dibs on new stuff. I never make a ton, I always break about even. Time consuming but worth it. Way better than doing a garage sale IMO!

My sister did this at a local church, they told her that they were going to send her a check after the sale and asked her if she wanted to donate what she did not sell, which she said yes. She never got a check, and she of course did not get her stuff back because she opted to donate it to the church at the end of the sale. She spent all this time getting ready for the sale and got nothing back. Never did it again.

I’ve had good luck pricing jeans at $4 and more for nicer brands . My local thrift has kids clothes priced at 4/$1 a few times a year and I focus on picking up jeans to resale. Also, books are usually my best selling category in my local sale. It can be a lot of work to prep for these kind of sales but it pays off in the end.

You did really good for it being your first time! I've had the same lack of luck on FB marketplace too and it's really annoying when the people that DO do well act like it's our fault we aren't making sales left and right like them. Before the last consignment sale, I tried listing stuff on FB marketplace in sets cheaply....didn't get 1 bite(I'm talking 5 puzzles for $5 total, big bag of nice baby toys for $5, etc) In the end I made about the same as I would have IF FB marketplace would have worked out. Consignments sales are great for getting rid of "yard sale" stuff. I used to sell at 2 sales(take off the tags from the first and make new ones for whatever is left) so that's an option if you ever find yourself with a ton of stuff. Anyways, keep up the good work!

I have done JBF for almost 13 years. I have only lost about 6 items over all of those sales. I always prrice low, allow to reduce and sell 90-95% of my items in the biggest sale in my state.

My first consignment salea I got too excited and took a ton of shoes cause my daughter outgrows everything so quickly and wears it so little. Anyway I got so many “stolen” I guess bc I never got paid for it and they were not there when I picked up. Same for maternity stuff that was almost brand new. They were all good brands like Gap, Stride Rite, Nike so I’m not surprised but it sucked bc I ended up losing money instead of making any. So I never did it again. It sucks bc I have much clothing from my kids and that is an easy way to get rid off quickly.

Just participated in one last weekend! I have the same mindset - get it out and put a little in my pocket or turnaround and source items. Sold 143 items. Some items I was firm in my price and some it was priced low to leave my home!

What did you use for inventory on your computer and how did you do the tags with barcode

Pre-sale day is actually the busiest day because consignors are wanting first dibs!
