Going against new people is always a great time to work on standup, then passing game, then top pressure. Even if you usually play guard, new people suck so you can work on improving your shitty top game against them 😂 and it's really fun to go back to the basics of just applying pressure, slowing down their flailing, slowly grinding them down in mount, etc.

One of the hardest parts about being a white belt we don’t even know how to be a good training partner, even though we’re trying. Are we supposed to get more pressure less pressure with shoulder? We supposed to roll over where our hands supposed to be, etc. Sometimes we’ll talk about it like damn sorry if we’re not doing the right thing we’re not trying to be stubborn we just don’t seem to know where to be.

The fundamentals of BJJ, base, connection, posture, position, distance management, clinch fighting etc. all apply to a fight, it's specific strategies and techniques that must change.

A more stripped down set of techniques, some cross-training with strikes, knees, elbows etc. and the above mentioned fundaments serve as a solid foundation for delivering them.

Exactly. In other words, bjj works if you use your brain 🧠

This applies to mma as well. Different strategy required

I love that you said, “an armbar equals someone standing up and stepping on your face!” Yeah!

Sport is not combat and combat is not sport. The misapplied term “combat sports” gives a false impression. This is a great instructor. This is why I don’t spar or roll with novices or people I don’t know. It’s also why I stopped playing pickup basketball! 🤣

I'm confused about the belt comments on the beginning. Can someone please explain!?

i get what you’re saying but an armbar locked in is hard to stand up especially if they dont know what they are doing lol. Id say never start a fight seated or on the ground.

9 time out of 10 your fighting more then one + add a weapon bbj good too know but it can't save you totally , only if your fighting one on one and he knows bjj then it would come into play big time

You get the same thing in karate. When a person starts they are wild and often dangerous. Problem is you cant even really fight properly with them cause that can be dangerous too. They need to learn how to fight before they fight rather than just throw them in.

Sorry if you get an armbar and they can stand up, you've not got an armbar

If your on the ground you already half lost the right. His mates about to boot your head in.

This is why BJJ sometimes gets people nowhere in actual fights. It's not a coordinated dance unless the other person's listening to the same song.

In a Street Fight there are no rules. I do not recommend going to the ground with anyone unless necessary and only if you have 1-2 of your own with you. If you have to go to the ground by yourself, use your opponent as a shield. Work from the bottom up.
Speaking from experience. Getting jumped sucks and being stabbed and ect., is no joke.
