The BEST Way to Propagate Avocados! (In 7 Easy-to-Follow-Steps)

Now, avocados do not seem to be true to seed. What does that mean? It means that the plant grown from seed will not be the same plant as the original plant that produced the seed. It means that the avocados grown from this seed might take a very long time to bear fruit, and that the fruit produced might not be of the same quality as the original plant.⠀

I find that the ziplock bag method has a higher success rate than the one with toothpicks and keeping the seed halfway in water. It is also easier as you don't have to refil the propagation dish. It's set it and forget it (who knows this ad?). And when you open the platic bag a few weeks later, there's a young plant waiting 🙂 You could also do soil propagation by just putting the seed in soil, burying it completely, and keeping the soil moist until the seed sprouts. But that's a topic for another post.⠀

A few tips:⠀

➡️ If you notice mold forming in the bag, open it up once in a while, increase air circulation. You could also treat with an antifungal. ⠀
➡️ The bottom part of the pit is flat. That is the part that will sprout roots. And the pointy part of the seed will grow a stem. ⠀
➡️ Some seeds might never germinate, and that's ok. Just take another one and try again.⠀

I have one growing in water and it's slow growing but I have 3 beautiful leaves and one growing out...I want to try another but put in soil...what mix are you using for the avocado?

I though they where not true to seed. If you grow a hass avocados it won’t produce hass. I imagine it’s a head start on getting a graft ready.
