AOC Wants To Raise Taxes On Rich And Anderson Cooper Is SHOOK

In this Majority Report clip, Anderson Cooper can barely comprehend a 70% top tax rate.

"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is floating an income tax rate as high as 60 to 70 percent on the highest-earning Americans to combat carbon emissions.

Speaking with Anderson Cooper in a “60 Minutes” interview scheduled to air Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez said a dramatic increase in taxes could support her “Green New Deal” goal of eliminating the use of fossil fuels within 12 years — a goal she acknowledges is ambitious.

“What is the problem with trying to push our technological capacities to the furthest extent possible?” Ocasio-Cortez asked. “There’s an element where yeah, people are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes.”"*

She is actually making a great point about how prosperous the country was when the richest of the rich paid their fair share. It amazes me how some people who never will make millions defend those who are making millions and billions of Dollars against their own interest.

As someone who grew up in the 1950's, when that 90% tax rate was in effect I remember that jobs were plentiful, and my blue collar dad was the single bread winner with 3 kids, and we lived pretty good. Not lavish, but comfortable. Who can say that now?

It’s so funny to see these conservatives calling AOC a radical for proposing the same tax rate that was in place under President Eisenhower.

To anyone who may be running for office: If you talk about progressive legislation then you need to anticipate the question “will it raise taxes?” Or “your opponent says that’s socialism, what do you say to that?” You’re not going to get asked about the pros and cons of the policy itself, if you try to go that route the question is designed in a way to make that seem like you’re dodging the question. You’re being set up to say you’ll raise taxes or that a policy is socialist. It’s a knockout punch to conservative voters, and does make centrist dems uncomfortable. It’s shitty, establishment media types like Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper know that raising taxes and socialism are key phrases to make this legislation sound scary and unattractive. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is getting better about handling these setups, so pay attention to how she’s doing it. Andrew Gillum also did decent with this same type of crap in Florida, but he had the disadvantage of running as a progressive democrat in a red state so there was a lot he couldn’t do.

Without the efforts of our leftist elected officials (Bernie, Khana, AOC) none of these issues would ever be pushed into the conversation! We may not achieve them right now but this is the future we must continue to fight for!

Since when is fair taxation "radical"? Well, it is if you're a corporate fascist.

It disgust me how rich people are so scared to be taxed equally.

She is mildly left of centre. For her views to be called 'radical'' just goes to show how far to the right the mainstream of politics has gone.

Wow, what a surprise that a Vanderbilt heir is horrified by the thought of rich people paying their share of taxes.

If they can cut Social Security and food assistance, they can raise taxes on the rich

It's fascinating how there's such a strong narrative for the poor not to get "too much" because once they're exposed to it (too much welfare, food stamps...etc.), they'll get greedy and want more and more and you can never go back. No one ever applies that concept to the other end of the spectrum. If you let people get too wealthy, the standards of wealth people chase continue to climb, and the strategies to accomplish it become more and more damaging to society. I would think it if we must remain diligent about the greed of the poor, that would hold true for the greed of the wealthy...

Wtf, the rich get away with murder and already do not pay their fair share in taxes. We need a 100% tax rate past a certain level of income. People like Jeff Bezos shouldn't even exist until we have 0% poverty.

Have an old high school friend. Still talk to him. We're both from working class backgrounds, but he did really well during the tech boom and now owns a couple of apartment buildings and rental properties. He's now a rich guy. One day over beers we were chatting about taxes. Without any malice or glee he says to me "I don't pay any taxes. I have accountants who hide the money. Only poor people pay taxes." This is the rich. Ensuring the rich pay their fair share isn't "radical", except to the rich.

Oh my God! Can you imagine a society where rich people, like Anderson Cooper, pay their fair amount of taxes? What a horrible nightmare that society would be, you know, like Norway but with more people.

Funny thing is, the tax rate used to be higher than 70% and amazingly enough, the rich were still super rich....oh and remember, Anderson Cooper comes from an insanely rich family.
