I had to go to Ft. Sam for a hearing with the MEB. I was not authorized for a rental car because I was under 25, and my flight landed after the on-post cab company stopped running. I got an Uber to the front gate, and instead of walking the 5 miles to the hotel (given the fact that I'm now crippled and need a cane to walk), I hobbled to the building where my hearing was taking place and slept behind the dumpster so I wouldn't be seen. Thanks, DTS

"I'm not signing for anything!". 20 years after getting out that's still my mantra.

Only the military can give you PTSD from dealing with its bureaucracy.

"You're going on a trip for work, you'll be flying Delta, you'll have a 5-star hotel and a Corvette rental car. "
Wow that sounds great
" You have to use DTS to get all of it. "
Nah I'm good, so Frontier Airlines, Motel 6, and I'll just take my skateboard, sound good?

I was on a job and this dude, who was a veteran, had made a homemade truck camper on his old non running truck that he towed out there on a trailer. He was pocketing 1500 a month just in keeping the rv payment he was getting. Company was also paying him to fix his truck plus paying him 1000 for it every month. Wish i was smart and stupid enough to have done that

Had an awesome supply sergeant for the last unit of my enlistment. If you were missing something, but had an extra of something of relatively equal value, he would let you turn the extra in as a cover for the missing thing and do his paperwork wizardry to make you good to go.

Remember folks: Military grade just means lowest available cost.

So you’re telling me I’m living a soldier’s life on hard mode as a civilian

I read a new report about the military changing guys for lost equipment that they were ordered to leave in Afghanistan in the withdrawal. I think you can add the to the bucket of "why are our recruitment numbers low?"

That's why Tactical Tailor used to be freaking awesome! Kidney pads, and ruck shoulder "super straps".

The best day is range day, because I'll bring a whole pack of industrial grade XXXlarge ziplock bags with me. That way, before they food out, I'll load up those bags with even good to feed me for a month. Just freeze them. Bread, too. They always bring out 20 loafs of bread, and only two get opened. Toast for days!

I used to audit DTS vouchers... I brought it up that our state USPFO was withholding a specific TDY pay from ALL AGR soldiers (direct violation of the JTR). My boss's response "No one wants to pick a fight with the USPFO so just leave it alone."...

Even better, USPFO said (of course I didn't listen, definitely picked that fight lol) "This is how we interpret that portion of the JTR".

"Sir, you know the second page of the JTR says you're not authorized to interpret the JTR, right? You have to request clarification from NGB".

So, they're still stealing over $50k annually from their AGR soldiers while bragging about how much they save every year lol 😁

I was Air Force Security Forces. My buddy was Army. He told me don't even unwrap your gear. Go to a military surplus store and buy your own. I said why TF would I do that? . . . He was right 😞

CIF will not take it back if it looks used or is dirty (as in sat in a closet and gathered dust.
They will then charge you for brand new gear even if the stuff they gave you was from Vietnam.

Damn straight I went and bought my own gear.
I also bought storage bags and sealed the CIF stuff so it wouldn’t get dusty in my closet.

The Army gives you freedom of choice. The choice of using DTS or sleeping in your truck. The Marine Corps decides for you. They put set you up in a tent outside of the hotel. No DTS.

To civilians, military-grade means toughest of the tough. To anyone who’s served, military-grade means whoever could do it for cheapest got the contract.

The best part about CIF is when you try to return something still in the package and they say it's the wrong NSN.
The actual best is when they say "this item number has been discontinued." and hand you back something you had been holding onto for over a year, unopened. Feels like Christmas.
It's also nice when they black out a whole big-ass section of your slip because according to them, you never got those items because you weren't supposed to...but you definitely -don't- have half of them

I used a hotel once, reserved by the company. They charged me $3, 000 for twenty-one days, took it from my pay four times because of a paperwork error, and never returned a penny of the $12, 000 DFAS stole from me.

Yeah, fuck that.

Then they offered to fix it and jump me two paygrades if I would re-enlist. "If I can't trust you, I won't trust you. No."
