Good idea but the valyrian knife speaks against it. Mance Rayder wouldnt own a valyrian knife and even if he never would have given it away.

It was little finger, Sansa works it out

Little bit off topic but I was watching a show last week with a familiar face that I matched with the quote “You’re not supposed to be here, no one is supposed to be here” but I could not place it for the life of me. It’s been running through my head all the while. Thank goodness I saw this short to jog my memory.

Nah, it was Joffrey in the books and Baelish in the TV show, both confirmed.

in the books, its littlefinger, and tyrion figures it out
1. first littlefinger tells catelyn that the dagger belongs to him but he lost it to tyrion
2. then catelyn takes tyrion as her prisoner and she tells him why on the road to the vale: because of the dagger that she thinks is his; the line from tyrion hearing about the story of how littlefinger supposedly lost his dagger to him — about why would tyrion, a lannister, and with love for the only person in his family who doesnt treat him as shit, why would he bet against jaime on a tournament; plus consider that jaime is known for how he can fight with his sword, also being a kingsguard and all
tyrion IS surprised by that
3. later on tyrion, on multiple occasions, teases littlefinger about that, not sure of his motives
and you can see that when he returns to kings landing as an acting hand on the first meeting; you can also see that when he speaks to littlefinger while discussing myrcella

tyrion, though, doesnt know what drives littlefinger so he doesnt out him

The books confirm it was Joffrey. He did it because he heard Robert tell someone that he'd rather die than live life as a cripple. Interesting theory though

It was joffrey, both tyrion and jamie figured it out independently

One little Problem with this, How did the Catspaw then get a Valerian steel Dagger ? The one shown to littlefinger who says he lost it to Tyrion( Framing him Causing Catlyn Stark to arrest him setting off the war?)

There is absolutely no chance this is real.

Interesting theory, but it was most likely Joffrey. Martin makes very clear that when Tyrion, considered the most intelligent character in the books, thinks of something, he is almost always right.

The reason is that Joffrey had heard from the father, who was really admired by him, that cribbled people should be killed due the dishonored life they will live (the king was drunk when he said that). So, he decided to apply the king's will. Plus, the assassin has been found with a precious dagger that was in Joffrey's possess before the attack. So...

That sounds right, but can't be good for multiple reasons. Firstly, the books comfirmed it was joffrey. Secondly, the only reason mance wanted to go south was because he knew he could only survive the long night by uniting with the southern armies. But by weaking them with a war he would destroy their chances against the Others. And third, mance probably didn't even know bran was wounded, and surely not so soon, that he could send a killer to winterfell

Although it was Joffery that would be a pretty smart move on Mance's part, beat your enemy by making someone else fight them

I actually like this theory. It's very plausible 👍

In the books it was Joffrey but in the show it was probably littlefinger

The books even say that Tyrion and Little Finger had the knife at the tourney where Jaime lost. How in the world would Mance have gotten it. Fun theory but no way possible! I believe Joffery or Little Finger did it.

It was littlefinger . That was his only goal the entire first book . And we know littlefinger had an agent in winterfell at the time

Great theory but in the books its littlefinger. He did it to start a war between the lannisters and the starks. Its his dagger and when he lie about losing it to tyrion its because he wanted to be seem as trustworthy to ned stark and catelyn

I thought it was Littlefinger in the show but it’s been a minute since I’ve seen it

Mans raiders plain sort of makes sense on paper but has a lot of holes. A major one being the assumption that the stark family would accuse the Lanisters to begin with, something that they have no reason to believe at the time.
It's only when Ned and girls are taken captive that the Stark armies march south. An event that's entirely unrelated to the assassination.
