I agree with your comments in today's video..Here is a quote from a LEICA employee a few years back.."ONLY A PRINTED PHOTO IS A PHOTOGRAPH, THE REST IS ONLY Data"

Some of my favorite in my collection are 4 x6! You can always add a border if you are so inclined when presenting them.

One man’s snapshots are another’s art. Some of my favorite photographs are quick snapshots of my children using either Kodachrome or Kodak Gold 400 (cheap film). If you captured their laugh or a unique look of theirs it was made into a 4x6 print. I didn’t use a tlr at the time so the dimensions were already determined. After shooting with a 6x6 tlr everything changed in how I saw things. I can definitely get your point. Nice job!

And don't sleep on the fact that early color prints (like many in shoeboxes around my house) have faded miserably. But those black-and-whites are still perfect! Long live silver!

Excellent post. I found a a few weeks back a nice little portrait of three young kids in the 20's or 30's. One of them had to make a funny face! It has a white border with a pattern bounding the image. It is a treasure, and I will be on the hunt for more.

I apply white border to every photo I complete these days. As you say, its like a statement of framing a finished image to present it to the viewer.

I like my photos with borders as well, ;)

Could you do a section about mat vs gloss finish on photographs?

Interesting point about 4x6 being too large for wallets these days. Instax minis are credit card sized, so I guess they are the snapshots of today in that sense. I prefer the Instax square format, though, which is 2.4" by 2.4", but that's probably because of the Polaroid association with the square format. It feels like instant photography's natural shape, even though older Polaroid cameras before the SX-70 looked much more like your snapshots.

Interesting video. I use my Instax Square in this way to produce small prints that fit in wallets. The advantage of this system is its immediacy, I give most prints away to the subjects and they seem well received. Black and white or colour and a nice border. Picture quality is fine for small size prints.

It is an interesting topic. I'm curious. How many photos have you collected so far?
