I was surprised about how moving this film is. Delmer Daves went to to direct some of the great melodramas but his input here is classic. How wonderful to see such famous faces. Legends of the screen and theatre. So many of the numbers are chilling and show an insight into the reality of warfare back then such as Gracie Fields song about Pearl Harbour. It is tragic that most young people seeing this film today will have no idea who these great stars were or of the millions who gave up their lives to ensure the freedom and liberty we now take for granted. How swiftly these people were forgotten and all we now hear about nowadays is the sins of our forefathers not the sacrifices they made on our behalf. What a terrible indictment of our culture and how shabby and degraded it has become.

Betty Davis started the Stage Door Canteen for the GI’s during WWII. Thank you for sharing our history. This is the Greatest Generation, our parents that won WWII.

RIP Cheryl Alice Walker (Andrews) Who passed away 50 years ago on Oct 24, 1971 at age 53 of cancer at the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. She played the role of Eileen who fell in love with Dakota in the film

I’m 44 and love this kind of stuff. Makes me think of my grandparents! Both grandpas were in WW2. One in the Army and one in the Navy. I’m also retired military.

When you talk about the golden age of Hollywood this was it at its best .. a really brilliant look at the young talent that existed before WW2... Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Gypsy Rose Lee, Yehudi Mehnuen, Harpo Marx all in their hopeful youth in love with the American Dream that once was.. wow, so sad it's changed but then... Hooray for Hollywood and the Stage door Canteen that entertained America . Truly an amazing tribute to the Hollywood that was.

I love this film and the performances of two unknown young studio contract players, William Terry as gentle, sweet Dakota and Cheryl Walker as the self centered Eileen who changes during the course of the film, redeemed by her love for Dakota. Two people who fall in love despite their best intentions. When love comes, good intentions fly out the window. The roof top scene was beautiful. They were good actors .This film should of been their big breakout, but for some unknown reason never became stars.I cried at the end when the soldier told Eileen that Dakota said to tell her he would love her all of his life.I believe that Dakota and his three buddies did return safely home .Love Katharine Hepburn 's patriotic pep talk to Eileen at the end.

song "A Rookie and His Rhythm", by Kay Kyser & His Orchestra, starts at 32:58 in this video. There is much to enjoy about this whole movie, but that segment (lasting about 3 minutes) is one of my favorites for bringing a dose of cheer and liveliness. Great vocals, great music, and some interesting dancing too.

Moving and uplifting. In addition to being a great chance to see some old stars like Edgar Bergen, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd and Ed Wynn. As well as famed stage actress Katherine Cornell.

Bravo to all the actors addresses musicians and all others that really loved our country and the soldiers that put their lives on the line what a wonderful tribute this really was the greatest generation in every way now our country is so divided and so messed up wish we could find all that unity and united front and love for our country like there was then people were willing to sacrifice for love of country that was present then God help us I fear for our country 😢😢😢😢😢

Mizpah ~ Genesis 31:49, which contains Laban's prayer at Mizpah, "May the Lord watch between you and me when we are absent one from another.
" The context, however, indicates that Laban's words were more in the nature of a mutual warning than a blessing.
I HAVE LOVED THIS THE MOMENT I HEARED AND UNDERSTOOD THIS ....

what a great and complex message
forgive us
and help us to forgive those
who sin against us
but they had to go to war and fight a great evil in a righteous cause
Soldiers are called to a tough road, , God Bless Them
