Fun fact: if you play the low tax route, you can grow your economy super fast until you break even. Then you just need to bump your taxes to momentarily to get rid of the debt, then repeat.

Thank you so much for these guides. Also, fun fact: you cannot annex a vassal that you have a good relationship with. Now I just need to figure out the nuisances of maintaining alliances and how most effectively to deal with assimilation (especially when it is a homeland of another culture).
I'll elaborate a bit if you want to read, sorry for the block of text coming.



With alliances, I get these random moments where, lets say secessionists declare independence or some natives are uprising, and my buddy stayed neutral, well I just lost my alliance the second the war breaks out and I could not use an obligation to pull them in because I just used it to form the alliance 5 years ago or less, and they get to keep the obligation too so I can't try to reform the alliance for a bit. Similarly, there are some plays that involves my partner and if I do not move in and declare neutrality or something, it breaks if I ignored the play, despite the game doing decently in automating which side I am on when it opens. Either this is poor design, or I just suck at this, probably both. It also doesn't help that every single time I am a main player in a play (even when I am the defender), my buddy starts to dislike me more, which can ruin relationships if you get a combo of plays going off. Got my ally to -100 relations despite trying to mend it and stop my aggressive plays the second I realized this gameplay feature.


As for assimilation, I'll use Prussia as an example (as I am doing my first few playthroughs as them). You have Poles with homelands in Posen and West Prussia and when you form Germany, you will have Catholics in southern Germany. Embrace national values doesn't work on converting the Poles to Germans but I have noticed that when I start going colonial, just straight up discriminating them can get them to migrate away, though I have not tried if running more accepting laws might get it to work. As for the Catholics, I'm guessing a mix of embrace national values and making sure my state religious law stays accepting of faiths that are similar. I have yet to try to convert them in my playthrough yet.

If your changing the troop type or artillery type in the barracks or conscripts make sure to do it about a year before war breaks out or you'll suffer great penalties
