One of my all time favorites! The singer with the higher voice was the incomparable Clyde McPhatter. He never reached the level of success of a Sam Cooke or a Nat King Cole but he was a tremendous talent.

You picked a fabulous version of this song. The Drifters had several incarnations over the years because they were so low paid members kept ( unironically) drifting in and out of the band. Their second iteratinon, Ben E. King and the Drifters were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Between the first two iterations, the Drifters produced 26 hits that charted in Billboard's Top 100.

The Drifters are GREAT! Early group for R&B and Do Wop of the 1950s. If you like this style, may I also suggest the Ronettes? They sing "Sleigh Ride" for Christmas and "Be My Baby".

This is SUCH A GREAT SONG!!! I've seen them twice iat oldies concerts. One of the BEST! The lead singer on this song, Bill Pinckney, passed away a few years ago, a couple weeks after filming a concert for PBS. This song was in the first "Home Alone" movie.

The Drifters were a very popular group through the 50's and 60's which changed personnel many times over the years. The "ay-yie-yie" voice in this song is Clyde McPhatter, the lead of the group in the late 50's. He left to pursue a solo career and had some success with songs like "A Lover's Question" and "Ta Ta." He was a vocal proponent in the civil rights movement; he and Sam Cooke were the lone artists who chose to boycott a show in Memphis, TN in 1961 because the audience was segregated. It was a bold move for both of them. Ben E. King was a later lead singer in the group on big hits like "There Goes My Baby", "This Magic Moment, " and "Save The Last Dance For Me." He also left the group for a very successful solo career.

Thank you for another great video. It's one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs and The Drifters were a terrific group. This is one of the rarest cases where a re-make is just as good as the original. Bing Crosby sang the original White Christmas in 1940. I think you'd enjoy that version as well. The animated version of the Drifter's White Christmas is fantastic!

Most black households will have this song, the Temptations' Christmas song, Donnie Hathaway on repeat until New Years. Radio stations played this on repeat on Thanksgiving.
We don't normally play Bing Crosby.
