Light has always held a divine status in science, and the ancient Greeks were among the first to study it, connecting it closely with vision. Various theories emerged to explain how we see, with some philosophers believing that light came from the eye, while others thought it entered the eye from objects.

A renowned mathematician, Euclid contributed significantly to understanding light by conceptualizing it as thin, straight lines or rays. He proposed that these rays were emitted from the eyes and travelled in straight lines to interact with objects, making them visible.

Euclid’s approach was revolutionary because he applied geometric principles to the study of light and vision. His idea of vision as a geometric process laid the groundwork for later developments in optics.

But, of course, we now understand light as being emitted from light sources and reflected from objects into our eyes, enabling us to see.

So that's why people burst into flames when I stare at them long enough. It was my eyes this whole time. I'm not even from Greece.

People also thought infectious diseases were transmitted by making eye contact with people who had a disease.

The idea was that nocturnal animals seemed to give off light because of the sheen their eyes gave off at certain angles. The belief didnt stick around for that long, since it's plain to see that our eyes don't do that.

I'm now curious as to how they explained night-time or dark rooms 🤔 did they corrolate vision to patterns of the sun or anything with fire to explain loss of vision in darkness?

A light-emitting diode is a semiconductor device that emits light when current flows through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons. The color of the light is determined by the energy required for electrons to cross the band gap of the semiconductor.

That is how ray tracing in video games works

Ancient Greeks were at different level. Is it true that Newton put a needle in his eye to see how it affect his vision?

Colour and sound don’t exist in the external world, just like pain doesn’t exist in a limb or torso both are created in the brain converting waves of energy or nerve signals into the illusions of light and sound and pain. So much so if you could swap over the nerve endings in the brain coming from the foot and hand and if applied pressure to your hand you would feel it in your foot.

This is really interesting! But please don't use AI art 💔 it gives a really low quality feel, and is made using art stolen from actual artists without consent.

Malians in West Africa were studying how light interacts with material objects in the 14th century. Around 400 years before Europeans had come across this. Europeans only started studying these things AFTER they had access to these books and scientific data from invading the Askiya and Songhai empires in 1592 and onwards...

It's really time you people start respecting the true origins of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry... Which is Africa. Black Africans were indeed the first humans to study the arts of reality.

The mirror example would have been better is you didnt use ai art since it cant replicate reflections it looks like a window. Give a low quality feel to videos i know are not.

Cats can't see in complete darkness. But a small source of light is enough for a cat to see an entire room apparently.

No, I had no clue. Thank you for teaching me and others. 🤗 So does it change our perception of the allegory of the cave? 🤷🏻‍♀️

If our eyes emit light why don't we see in dark?
