First Time in VIETNAM 🇻🇳 Solo Travel Hanoi: Old Quarter, Train Street, Beer Street, Vietnamese Food

It's my first day in Vietnam!!! In this Vietnam Travel Vlog, I spend a weekend exploring Hanoi: the capital of Vietnam. I start by walking from my hostel in Hanoi's Old Quarter to the famous Note Cafe for a quick breakfast and my first coconut coffee! The coffee was amazing and it's one of the cutest cafes in Hanoi! After the cafe, I crossed the street to Hoan Kiem Lake. The lake borders both the Old Quarter and the French Quarter of Hanoi. It's also famous for the Ngoc Son Temple in the middle of the lake. The lake has a really cute path around it and it was so busy every time I went! I bought a ticket and crossed the bridge to the island temple in the middle of the lake. It was a really nice place to see, however you're not allowed to take pictures/videos inside the actual temple. After exploring the island temple, I crossed back over the bridge and continued walking around the lake to the French Quarter of Hanoi. The French Quarter is so nice with big sidewalk and colonial architecture. From there I wrapped back around to the lake again and stumbled upon the Hanoi Book Street before arriving at the Hoa Lo Prison. While the prison museum was sad, it was a great place to learn about some of the history of Hanoi. After exploring the museum, I continued walking through Hanoi to the St. Joseph Cathedral. The cathedral is huge and surrounded by cute cafes and bars! Instead of checking out the cafes, I walking a few minutes away to get some Pho. While I wanted to eat at the famous Pho 10 Ly Quoc Su, the line was too long. I ended up eating at the nearby Pho Bo which had a great vegetarian Pho option! Although I was shocked to see motorbikes driving through the middle of the restaurant! On the way to the train street, I stopped to buy a new backpacking backpack in Hanoi. I then arrived at the train street to see the daytime train go by. It was a really cool experience! From the train street I walked over to the Temple of Literature - the first university in Vietnam! I was able to explore all around the temple before jumping on my first Grab motorbike taxi in Vietnam. The ride was definitely crazier than my motorbike taxis in Bangkok! After relaxing for a little while, I headed back to Train Street to see the train at night. A couple people told me they were scammed on Hanoi's train street? But I didn't have any issues! The train was delayed from 7:30pm to almost 9:30pm - but after one train went by, a second train went by less than 5 minutes later! After the trains, I walked through Hanoi to the Beer Street where I met up with another solo traveler I met at the train street to have some Banh Mi for dinner and a beer on Beer Street. I met some Vietnamese rappers on the way, had an amazing Banh Mi, then headed back to my hostel. The following day I was able to see the weekend Walking Street in the middle of Hanoi before trying some more Vietnamese food (bun bo nam chai). Hanoi is an amazing city and a great place to start my Vietnam trip!

My favorite way to experience Train Street is from inside the train haha

A little over two years ago a tourist got injured on Train Street so they shut it down. You could still experience it if you went into one of the cafes with an entrance on the other side and you sat on their balcony. Shortly after they opened the street with rules, gates, police, etc. and tourists could only get in if they were escorted by a cafe worker. That meant you had to meet a cafe worker on another nearby street and agree to go with them to their cafe. I went there when it was like that in early 2023 and it wasn't as festive because it wasn't crowded.

I think that's still technically the rule but they just kinda stopped enforcing it (probably because it was bad for business) so now you can just walk down the street on your own and pick your own seat. So yeah, in the last couple of years different people have definitely had different kinds of experiences with Train Steet depending on when they were there.

There's a similar thing that happens with the sidewalks in Hanoi. Technically shops are breaking the rules by spilling across the sidewalks and into streets like they do. Every couple of years the rule against blocking the sidewalk gets strictly enforced for a short time and then gradually those little tables and chairs get farther and farther out into the street

I really like your videos let me say that first. Last night I cleared about half the people I had subscribed to because I don’t really want to watch them anymore, but I did keep you because I like. One piece of constructive criticism that I would say and I’m gonna say this very nicely cause I don’t think you need to be rude on YouTube in comments, but you are very, very pretty and enjoyable to watch and I like your content. The only thing that would make you more enjoyable to watch is if you can just try to focus on, try not to touch and play with your hair so much because it is kind of distracting to the viewer. I had told another YouTuber that when they were talking with their hands too much it was very annoying to watch and they fixed it, and it was much more enjoyable to watch.. so maybe you might want to think about that it’s all about making these little corrections whether it’s an editing or how we deliver a video or whatever that makes a video more enjoyable to subscriber. I hope this does not hurt your feelings or make you mad because it’s not intended to at all. You have excellent content, and are very pleasant to watch other than the hair.😂
