Holy Crap! My Guy, you have no idea how crazy i was trying to figure out what happened. I replaced the starter in a 2007 X3, and after all back together I had Only the 4x4 and BRAKE lights stuck on. I tore the intake back off and checked all wiring and still didn't fix it. I tried this method you showed and BAM! fixed. Should have went to Youtube university sooner. LOL thanks again. take care.

This actually happened to me today after driving a mile and I made a U-Turn to go back home after driving a quarter mile the warning light cleared. I haven't driven my car for 2 days and it was 4 degrees yesterday (2/4/23) in NJ.

I came to YouTube to see what may have caused the warning light to come on and if I was going to have more issues and how to resolve the issue and this video was very helpful. Thank you!

odd question, but would this cause it to not engage any gear? the front driveshaft broke at the ujoint hoop so i removed it the shaft. now i cannot get it to go into revers or drive.

My 05 X3 3.0 has been sitting all winter, extra cold out here this year with lots of near 0 Fahrenheit temps, just been starting it weekly and warming it up to keep the battery charged and systems working. Went to drive it around the block and as soon as I started backing up the 4x4 (DSC) warning light came on. Tried this reset and went away immediately. Other Youtube vids recommended that there's a plastic gear that's in the transfer case and those get brittle and fail. So far the light is off so hoping nothing is actually broken just triggered due to inactivity and maybe super cold temps?
