Firefighters rescued a trapped man from a burning vehicle Thursday night in North Merrick, New York. Around 10pm North Bellmore Firefighters and New York State Troopers were alerted to a vehicle fire on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 24N (Merrick Road).

North Bellmore Fire Chief David Marschall arrived on the scene and noticed a male victim trapped inside the burning vehicle. According to the North Bellmore Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark DiRenzo arrived shortly after and assisted with keeping the fire at bay with a fire extinguisher until a fire pumper could arrive.

Heh... I grew up in North Merrick. Exit 24 is Merrick Avenue... Merrick Road is at the other end of town beyond Sunrise Highway. Why was Bellmore called, North Merrick should have handled it.
