Yaesu FTM-100DR Faceplate mounting options in vehi

The springy rounded bend in the metal bracket is the perfect size to fit in the seldom used CD slot opening of many car radios. Holds fairly tight, no tools installation or removal. If you have any block off switch panels for nonexistent options they make a good place to pass wires through. Cheaply reversible. My Honda Pilot has a deep recess at the bottom front of the center console. I made up a slide in unit containing a SLA battery, the entire radio with mounted faceplate, and an android tablet to display the APRS map. It plugs into lighter socket power to keep charged. I can pull the entire unit out for field use, topped up by solar panel with lighter socket. Still need a reliable way to quickly swap on portable antenna.

Thanks for the video, but the eyeglass holder may get very hot in the summer heat. I wouldn't trust the head unit in that area. Put a thermometer inside the holder and see how hot it gets in direct sunlight for a few hours.

How does it get GPS reception in the sunglasses holder? I've got a CRV and it has that same sunglass holder.

Hey Nate, thanks for taking the time to do your vids on the FTM-100DR. I'm sorta new to the Ham world, but was looking at buying a mobile unit for my truck. I was looking at the Yaesu FT-8800R and noticed this FTM-100DR. I really like the FTM, what are your thoughts on the two? Thanks W5ABN
