I‘m on pc and the best settings for me are:

Audio Mix: home cinema
Master volume: 65
Gameplay Music volume: 0
Dialouge volume: 40
Effects volume: 100
Voice chat volume: 30

But I use other (legal) programs to enhance footstep frequencies.
I followed tutorials from the youtuber “Art is war” I really recommend him for console and PC.

I never play with headphones. I also don't play rebirth but the one time i put on headphones i was blown away how easily i could hear enemies around me

or just buy steelseries headset with a gamedag this improved the hell out of the audio for me, look up the right equalizer settings for the gamedag and you’re good to go

As a console player, for some reason, i can hear footsteps like they are in front of me but they are 20m away

Mine got worse but I'm on an old Xbox thought it was just me it's even worse on multiplayer as well
