The Lake of Kastoria
The Lake of Kastoria or Orestiada or Orestida, has been characterized as a monument of natural beauty by the Ministry of Culture. The area is approximately 28 square kilometres and its maximum depth is 9.5 metres.
It's the natural habitat of 200 species of birds as well as many lake fish.
It is worth touring and enjoying this beautiful location, on foot or by bike.
We walked the small round of the lake, which is almost 7 kilometres long, and felt astonished by a magical scenery, full of towering plane, poplar and willow trees, leaning over the surface of the lake.
We were happy to meet friendly fishermen, we visited country churches, the Monastery of Virgin Mary and the Cave of the Dragon.
For the daring ones, there is also the great round of the lake, which is extended from the south exit of the town, to Dispilio.
There is nothing like being here, and feel, with all of your senses, this unique beauty.
