this specific location is probably my favorite across any Pokemon game, whether its just gen 3 or the current ones. I don't know what it is about it, there's so much nostalgia and that firered leafgreen vibe here where I feel good just hanging out here. also incredibly unique so I'm definitely a fan

if you look very closely at the leaderboard, you will actually see a 00:00:00 timecode that indicates how much time i spent watching this youtube short since it does not contain a shiny sploink in it

Fun fact: This place was DLC-only in the original Japanese FRLG! (e-Reader cards) It got included in the base game in translations.

idk why but this is one of my favorite locales in Pokemon, so I'll probably give it a full length long form feature if you're into that thing

i love these videos. snappy, well edited, researched, and they provide new understanding about a generation of games i only experienced as a small child

The fact that I still learn something new about firered and emerald just shows how ahead these games were at their time, and even today

I remember a trainer had a shiny Espeon in the trainer tower when I first got here. I was extremely pissed

Here is where every non-japanese are ROBBED. This place in FR, LG and Emerald have e-reader interaction. You can scan 8 different trainer cards designed for FR & LG & E. Each card corresponds to a floor. Without cards, Trainer Tower (Trainer Hill in Emerald) has only 2 floors (I think).
Each trainer has (again I think) 6 pokémon teams and which ones you see depends on the order of the cards scanned. For example, there's a trainer with a shiny Espeon in NA/PAL releases. But that same trainer has an ENTIRE SHINY EEVEELUTION TEAM you can't see because that trainer is fixed to appear on that one floor.

There's also a house in Seven Island that has a "battle basement" just like the ones in Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald. But it's inaccesible because "mystery event" (a.k.a e-reader compatibility) is REMOVED from overseas releases.

It also got the only stairs going down and forward in gen3

Some trainers in that facility have shiny Pokemon. The best strategy is to get a level 3 Electrode with sonicboom and sweep everything with it. To get it, you have tov catch a level 3 Pikachu and then trade it for an Electrode in the Cinnabar island lab. If you have more games, you can get more Electrodes which you can use to make the facility even easier, since you can use the same Pokemon multiple times.

The Trainer Hill in Emerald at least rewards TMs, which was a godsend at a time when TMs are one-time use.

Since Shorts are a thing, I’ve been noticing that even after decades of feeling confident knowing the classic games, I’m quite ignorant.

Don't get me wrong I love that it's speed run based cause it has you thinking of ways to finish EXTREMELY fast

That's so backwards to include a speedrun mode - a mode designed to be replayed many times over - and to not give worthwhile reward for doing so.

Emerald had something like that and you can (only until postgame) see it earlier, after you get rock smash and before you go to the desert there is a tower with the same mechanics
