If ever in Wales, go here. Its brilliant. The staff are lovely and the surrounding is too. Make sure you walk around the castle, parts that are unstable will have no entry signs. The rest is up to you. Its a lovely/spooky place. The only thing that spoils it is some rust cans here and there. The grounds men were always out about and seemed to leave them, but they could have just tumbled in. Go see! It's lovely otherwise

What a castle! Beautiful hotel now, but wow! What a gorgeous setting that place is. Incredible to see the outlines of the older buildings on the side, incredible really. Such cool ruins, love that you can walk down and around! Thanks for sharing and showing us about!

That bit around 8 mins where you said "that's the bit we've just been down there" is a different area to where you were, they are not connected. The gate with the No Entry sign on was presumed to be the dungeons/holding area. The towered entrance is dilapidated inside, and extremely dangerous, which is why it's boarded up. The Grey Lady's grave is a myth that she was buried there, it was more likely she was buried lower down and outside the castle walls as her crime would not allow her to be buried on consecrated land (the mediaeval hall was originally the site of the stables and a Chapel). The spiral staircase that you descended around the 20min mark, led to a Sally Port (a secure, controlled entryway into castle)
The original fortification would probably have been motte and bailey.
But the first documented castle on this site was given to Dafydd, brother of Prince Llewelyn ap Gruffydd by King Edward I of England in 1277 in return for his treacherous help during the invasion of North Wales that year.
It was originally known by the Welsh name of Castell Coch yn yr Gwernfor or The Red Castle in the Great Marsh.

What a truly stunning place, so much to see. Loved the spiral stairs shame there was a gate at the bottom. The peacocks are so beautiful. Brilliant video, great place to explore 👍🏻
