This book looks SO interesting. Really eye-opening that we all knew that not all women live with negative emotions after having an abortion, but this is the first time it's been solidified as scientific fact?! Really?! Speaks volumes about where we are in abortion-related studies right now and how lacking we were before. All the other little issues you mentioned were really intriguing too. I gotta read this one!

Community judgment SO much more key than the event--an interesting conclusion to ponder for how to shape or choose that community...🤔

I'm definitely interested in picking this up! Economic reasons make so much sense as a driving force, although I hadn't realized that so many of the people would be ones who were married with multiple kids already. Did France in the 1970s have much of an economic social support system? I wonder if in countries with better social services the economic hardship is lessened, and if that would affect things.

Just a couple of things - 1) replicability is fundamental to science, so although the study provides interesting information, it can’t “prove” anything, especially since it’s touted as the first study of its kind. Also with such low participation rates, these results would need to be repeated by other studies to be able to draw any conclusions or broader generalizations.

2) My guess for why the wanted pregnancies aborted due to fetal anomalies were excluded from the study is that there’s pretty heavy agreement on both sides that women are very likely to have negative outcomes with those type of abortions, so that wouldn’t really be new information, and I’d think very few women would be willing to participate.

3) I agree that it’s frustrating how little this topic has been researched due to its heavy politicization. I would love to see more studies done where researchers from both the pro-life and pro-choice side work together to design and implement the study and report its findings.

Ahh, now that title of the book makes sense. 😲Sounds interesting. The cut-off arbitrariness is infuriating...
